1097, launching in MILE HIGH
Posted by bing001, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I don't know if anyone else lives in DENVER, but after going to Bandimere a few months ago I was really depressed. I ran a real shitty time 18 and 88 mph.

I found out that my head gasket was blown shortly afterwards.
The air up here sucks.

Anyways, lately I've been trying to launch at about 2.5 rpms just enough to hear a little tire spin. Just wondering whether or not my technique may be the problem?

I've heard of people launching their cars at 4 rpms, when I do this all that happens is a burn out?

Any advice?

ya, i roasted my launch at anything over 2800 rpms at the trak... 88mph is a high trap.. that "should" net u in the high 14/15s i would think.. w/the elevation your talkin about, prolly more mid 15ish..

i cant give any advice on luanchin, cuz i cant luanch for $hit

good luck... the # u said sounds about right... practice makes perfect

88MPH is a good trap speed, but it's nowhere near a high 14 second time ET wise. With a great launch and good shifting, it could be a 15 second timeslip.

As for the launching, it sounds as if you're just dropping the clutch and flooring it. You'll roast the hides everytime. Rev it to 32-3500, pull the clutch only to the engagement point, hold the revs and pull the clutch the rest of the way. That's the long version of slipping the clutch a little. You're putting more HP to the flywheel and using the clutch to adjust for wheel spin.

I've launched at 4500RPMs, with drag radials, with this technique with success enough to get 2.2x 60' times.

I've dropped the clutch at both 4500 and 5000 on shitty street tires with 2.4 60's and 16.4's at 84mph.
