9788, Radio Wiring.. Hard Wired To Battery! What The Hell!

So my friend got a pretty good hook up on a system and has this kid install it. First he does'nt consult me but its cool, the system is alright subs are 3 years old but he has some bump so hes happy. The kid who installs it tares the wiring harness to shit and grounds and powers the headunit directly from the battery??? WTF!. So my friend has to turn the headunit off manually and it can turn on obviouslly without the key. So keep in mind I check all this out a few days after the install. So there I was in my friends 00' Celica GT taring apart the mess this kid made and trying to splice the correct wires from the headunit to its corresponding wires into the cars harness trying to do it correctly by powering it where it was intended to go so the car wont have a draining problem. So the headunit is all wired up to the harness correctly and I get no power. I had a few sparks disasembling this rats nest of wires this kid left and i neatly twisty tied the wires in an organized manor.. Speakers together.. Power and ground, illumination, remote etc..together. But when all is said and done the damn thing still dont want to power up. We tried pluggin the stock headunit into the car and got a slight bump from the speakers than nothing. Fuses are all replaced and yes we blew some. So what is the issue here now and is there a cure. Sorry for the long post.. but I need help fast because his parents are gonna flip if its not fixed by the end of the weekend. My friend had horrible luck. Leaving with no headunit and as he pulls out of my driveway his tire pops and the tire slowly begins to fall of the rim..

Help me fix this, and give my friend some hope that things will go rite.

its going to be impossible to answer this question without more information. if you dont have one, PLEASE go buy a multimeter from walmart or somthing. they are only 8-10 bucks, and will help you immensly.

check the ground, acc, and constant wires for voltage to see where the problem is. once you track down the problem, you can find solution.

I would run your main power/remote/illumination and ground seperatly from the main harness plug.... acc on the fuse box ect to make sure your getting power and a good ground somewhere on the chassis. Also what slp said for real.... a must for any install really and a plus to have around for future problems.Hey and power/key off when installing...no need to see sparks to find the positive lol.

I fixed it.. Turned out it was the damn harness to the actual headunit.. The kid sold my friend the headunit with the harness all messed up.. No Constant wire and no Illumination. P.S the kid wired it before to the fuse and i wiggled it to make sure it was in good and it blew the god damn fuse.. I hate it when people do that. They make special fuses that you can wire stuff to dont they so you dont have to tie it to the post?
