9566, Has anyone done a carputer in their eclipse? Posted by Jerm23, Aug-11-04 10:16 AM
I'm toying with the idea of building a carputer for my Eclipse. I have one of those old clarion 310c autopc's but it just doesn't have the flexibility that a carputer has. I was thinking of selling this unit on ebay and building a carputer and putting one of these Lilliput screens in with a touchscreen overlay added on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67771&item=5713106835&rd=1 Has anybody built one for their eclipse, if so any pics? I have wireless at my house and I'm just loving the thought of uploading songs/videos into my carputer while it's parked in the garage. Plus there's just so much more you can do with it.

bah, $12,000 installed..yeah right! I'm really not looking for something like that. I'm looking at spending $500 for everything. I've learned alot about this by reading the forums at www.mp3car.com. There's tons of posts with examples in the "show off your project" forum here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=25 . I just haven't seen an 2nd Gen Eclipse with one and would like to get some ideas.

I've got one. But i am waiting to post pics cuz i am lazy. 7" lilliput molded into dash, wifi, gps, mp3, dvd, netstumbler for free wifi, Bluetooth cell service, etc etc etc.
I have all the parts, enough to build a carputer if you want them. I bought 2 of everything, 1 for me and 1 for the gf but she doesnt want it.
$300- Epia mobo 256Mb memory 10gb slimline hdd 80watt DC-DC powersupply ITPS for startup shutdown.
all you need on top of that is the lilliput. puts you under $500 no problemo.
EDIT: oh by the way Drivesoft is GAY. GAY GAY GAY. useless shit. they install a regular Carputer Mini-ITX fucking computer and then install a custom front end software. Just like mediacar or mediaengine which are both free front ends.
hit me up.

What type of enclosure (case) do you use? I looked at this a while back, but never found a suitable case. I could make one, but I'm too lazy...

I'll be making my own case out of plexiglass, and lighting prolly with blue cold cathodes. Back seat will be coming out again (if I dont sell the car) and it'll be mounted in the middle, flanked by an XBOX and a PS2

TRavla C134... Din sized. will fit where your Cd player is... only its 7" deep. not a problem for us if you relocated those relays.
Its the smallest case available that will hold both a CD drive and a HDD. its an extremely tight fit but it can all be squeezed in there...
sweet sweet case but the price is steep at $149.00
