I am going to do my first amplifier install, and I was wondering where the best place to ground the amp will be. I am using 4 guage wire. Do I need to run a ground back to the negative terminal of the battery? I've searched a little, and it seems as though the bolt for the rear seat is a good place.

It realy depends on where you are mounting the amp, but all you have to do is find a spot anywhere inside the car that is metal, if it is painted just chip it away so the surface where you are grounding it is unpainted use a selftaping screw and just screw it down.

I ran my ground from my trunk to underneath the rear seat on one of the buckle bolts.

same here, no ground loop noise, worked great.

there is a bolt (not going to anything) that is just to the right of the spare tire well... (you will see it when you lift the carpet)... that's where I'm at right now. there is a slit in the carpet... seems like it was put there just for my ground wire (from the factory)

yup under the carpet rite on that deck by the back seat.. grounds good for me

Run it back up to the battery ground IMO

no reason to run it back to the battery, thats actually the worst thing you could do.

im not sure what 95_esi_person is talking about, but i didnt have that bolt in my eclipse. there are several bolts in that area, but they dont make a chassis ground at all.

seatbelt bolt is wehre its at. i third the motion.

Super20G, you have a real nice setup. Did you run your's back to battery?
I'm gonna have to go with most of the repsonses above and say the seatbelt bolt because it goes directly to the chassis. Good luck man. Post some pics when you are done.

I ended up using one of the back seat bolts.. I sanded down the paint until I got bare metal and used a ring terminal. It worked perfectly. The ring terminal that came with my install kit (came attached to the wire) was not large enough for the seatbelt bolt to fit through it, but was big enough for one of the bolts used for the back seat. The only downside was that the alignment of my split folding rear seat was forced to be a little off so that my ring terminal would properly fit under the bolt.
