9257, Tell me what you think...good anti-theft device in theory Posted by 2gntnewbie, Jun-10-04 04:20 AM
My idea is to have a GPS/Engine Kill Switch hooked up to the car via satellite...that way you could track your car (NOT IN THE LOJACK SENSE) to the precise place it is, and quicker...also, if you see someone steal your car, or even if you find it stolen, you can call the service and have them kill the engine remotely!!! Now I know what your thinking, the theives will just cut the antenna to the satellite, or basically rip out the unit...but, instead of an antenna, have wires ran throughout the car that mount to the body and make the car a gigantic antenna..that way they would have to really dig deep to stop the signal...also, as to cutting the unit out itself, it would be wired at such that without a special code or something from the company, without the unit the engine will not run...
I think anyone interested in opening a business, or doing more research should think about it...its pretty feasible...I mean, they can unlock your doors from space...why not kill the engine if its being stolen, or track it within inches of itself immediately, rather then follow a damnible beep around town...
Tell me what you think or want to add..

Well you can't use your car as an antenna. The metal of your car body is a ground for your electrical system and would cause way too much interferance to use it that way.
Secondly I believe Alpine already has this setup :) You have to buy the Alpine alarm and GPS system, but you can do it. Sorry dude, good idea, just a little late.

if i ever own something that is not a neon, i plan to use a couple interesting ideas:
1) on a variation of yours, i will set up a d/a controller to a computer to controll fuel, ignition and trans killswitches. the perimiters for the kills would be dictated by the GPS system, and outlined by certain areas based on how i program the GPS. i could have a constant perimiter (lets say the city of charleston where i live), and anyone who attempts to drive out of this permiter will find the car dead. i could even use a voice command like "override" that must be stated everytime the car moves, and set up the GPS to kill the car as soon as it begins to roll. the options with that are unlimited!
2) multiple cameras in the car. if the alarm is triggered, multiple cameras will begin to record onto the HD.even if the alarm is comprimised, the cameras will continue to roll. basically, this will help catch the thief as he flees my dead car in the parking lot MWAHAHAHAH.
of course, to do this i will have to run the wires in the subframe of the car (probably weld them into a c-channel somewhere. the computer will be welded into a steel box sealed and locked in the spare tire well. all antennas/microphones/cameras will be well hidden so they are not noticable. now THATS a security system. ;)

Three words: self destruct button.
Anyway, it seems like it is too much trouble just to protect an eclipse imo. Hell I love my car and all, but if someone takes it, I'll just use the money from the insurance company and restart with a gsx. Imo, fuel pump kill switch, and a good alarm.

How about a rocket ejection seat with 5 pounds of C4 strapped to it?...HELL, strap explosives to everything, your subs, the ejection seat...the stereo, anything they can take...and just blow em up when they take it...
P.S.
Just make sure its not one of your family members just borrowing the car..."Sorry mom!!!!....":eek
