Wassup, I'm buying a battery isolator so i can run dual batteries. Does anybody know if I'll be able to get away with a 90amp isolator or do I need something bigger. Thanks in advance.

the fuse for the stock alternator is 120Amps... I know cause I blew mine when I installed a 200A alternator, but I've been told that the stock alternator is only 85A.. not so sure how much I'd believe that, but since I blew that fuse, I've been running the stock alternator with a 100A fuse (biggest I could find) with no problems. Hope this helps... I also have a dual battery setup (optima blue top & stinger dry cell). I'm using a 200A stinger relay between the two.

VERY GOOD IDEA. isolaters suck, they lower voltage and reduce power. go with a relay instead. the one suggested above is excellent.
BTW, our stock alts are 90amps (i think..its somewhere in there unless you are in canada).

The relay has the same effect as the isolator correct? Power will be drawn from the 2nd battery (where everything aftermarket is hooked up to) when the car is off, and not mess with the starting battery?

It is 85 amps. I bought a 120 amp alternator from www.alterstart.com (I think)
Very good mod if you are running any kind of aftermarket stereo setup.

yes, same effect, different (and much more simple) way of doing it.
the site for the aftermarket alt is www.4alterstart.com , and i believe its rated at 135amps. give the guys there a call if you have questions about thier product, they are REALLY nice there.

I think I just might have the biggest aftermarket alternator in a 2gnt.. lol. I had to customize the wiring and fashion a bracket to mount it tho cause it's made for GM cars. But lemme tell ya.. it sure does the job and sounds like a freakin supercharger when I rev the engine. Only downside is the slight loss of speed... but the underdrive pulley and lack of power steering and AC help to make up for that.

200 amp alternators are no joke lol. Any problems with your batteries with the current setup?
