9066, Monitor running down my battery ... Posted by eclipse982nrRST, May-15-04 10:34 AM
Hey guys, I am using one of those power inverter things for my xbox and clarion monitor ... problem is that the inverter plugs into the cig lighter and it will turn off when the battery starts to get low or if its low in the first place, it wont turn on. Anyway I can wire this somehow to where it will work all the time or anything?????

it sounds like you have two problems here:
1) the electronics are causeing a voltage drop in the battery. 2) the power inverter reads the voltage and shuts itself off under low volt conditions.
the first problem shouldnt be happening, as the monitor/other stuff shouldnt put to much of a strain on the battery unless you are using it for a couple hours straight with the car off. get your battery checked at autozone or somewhere. the second problem is with the inverter. hard wiring it to the car isnt going to change its performence, sounds like you might want to get a different inverter (if the battery turns out to be fine).

ya the inverter shuts itself off when it reads low voltage on the battry ... i have a optima battery though and had it checked like 2 months ago at autozone and they said it was fine. what other kind of inverter should i try or where should i get one from? the one i have now is from walmart.

hmmm...i dont know man. is it possible you just got a bad inverter? perhaps you could buy another one from walmart and try it out, if the problem stops you keep the new one, but if it keeps happening just return it. ive been known to abuse the walmart return policy a few times, lol.

Oh i got ya now, I'm sorry. I thought you were wondering if you could just wire it up to accessory power at the ignition harness, so that you didn't have to worry about the cig lighter plug.. lol at cluelessness:P

Uhm, it shuts itself off when it sees low voltage so that you can start your car dude.
And what kind of Optima do you have? Cuz if you have a red-top it's no different than a normal battery.
