9044, Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by jamez, May-14-04 11:47 AM
I have a 95/GS
I Bought this car stock about 6 months ago and both windows (driver/passenger) are somewhat "loose" and shakey when let down... is there an easy fix for this?
Also. I dont live in the best part of town and car break ins are a common thing. A Few weeks ago my car was one of 3 broken into at my apt complex.
With the other 2 cars the theives shatted the windows and ripped stuff out.. but with my car they slimmed jimmed.. scratched my tinted up but looks like it was an easy job...
they got away with my $800 pioneer deck and about 500 cds...
even though all the cds were burned and they didnt get the face i was out alot of money.
I've been trying to figure out a way to make the car a little more "theft proof"
any ideas... (smart asses please dont bother)

9046, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by SPL_Eclipse, May-14-04 11:53 AM
yes, our windows will shatter easily, im not sure why (or how) they jimmied the car, weve got a "jimmie blocker" built into the doors to prevent that, so you need a special wedge to do it.
if you go back a couple pages in this section you will find a loooong thread on alarm/security ideas. you can also search this section for the terms "razor" and "blades". youll find it that way as well. ;)
|
9047, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by jamez, May-14-04 12:16 PM
Yeh i read the "razor blades" and "electric shock" stuff... wondering if this is a forum where common sense isn't very common... im not going to glue razor blades all over my car.
However the baby monitor idea was brilliant.
several things ive thought of...
1. shaved doors.. this forces the burglar to at least shatter the window and open door from the inside so they are making a lot of noise.
2. tint... ive herd some tints can/will hold a window together when it gets hit and breaks.. not sure how good it would work.
3. for subs.. bolt the sub box through the frame of the car, your box isnt going anywhere :)
4. also for subs... screw them into the box with screws that need a special tool. most thieves wont bring anything but a regular screw driver.
5. for rims - well besides lugs that take special tools (wich alot of thieves have) the only thing i can think of is having bags. if you drop your car to the ground every night befor going in thieves cant get your car high enough to get the rims off. however bags are expensive..
6. NEVER leave your deck face plate under a seat or in a glove box.. they look.
the most extreme i was thinking of going about was searching for a company to make unbreakable windows for my driver/passenger doors and getting the doors shaved... however this option im sure is quite expensive. :(
Over the last 3 years between 2 cars ive lost $9,000 in stereo equipment.. numerous 12" mtx thunder 8000's :(

9049, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by a_miller_76, May-14-04 12:34 PM
1. Move 2. All you need to break into a car is a handful of crushed sparkplug ceramics. 3. Alarms only deter amateurs. I could disable an alarm in 15 seconds or less. 4. Stop putting so much stereo equipment in your car if you get broken into so much.
|
9050, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by jamez, May-14-04 01:32 PM
like i said befor.. smart asses dont need to reply
1. i happen to like where i live why should i let idiots stop me from staying there ?
2. again, if i want to make my car nice, why let dumb ass people stop me?
Out of the 4 times ive had a car broke into i caught one of them in the act and took a baseball bat to the guy.
Its going to take alot of stolen stereos to pay his hospital bill :)
I know this much, if i catch anyone again they wont be lucky enough to see a hospital.

ooook. im going to politly tell you that if you are looking for answers, we provide them, and you dont like them, it is probably best to just not respond (or respond in an appropriate manner). trust me, im trying to help you out here...most people will not warn you like this.
funny how you disagree with razors, yet beating someone with a baseball bat is perfectly fine.
|
9053, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by jamez, May-14-04 02:06 PM
1. theres no need to be a jackass. if your not going to put any thought into answering why waist time ?
2. telling me to move and telling me you can break into my car in 15 seconds and telling me not to put nice things in my car ARE NOT ANSWERS ON HOW TO KEEP THEIVES OUT OF YOUR CAR.
3. super glue razors all over you car is the stupidist thing ive ever heard. its dangerous to yourself in the event of a crash, it will leave glue all over nice things that shouldnt have glue, resell value is gone, the list of reasons why super gluing razors all over your car is dumb, is near infinite :)
4. beating a thief you catch stealing your things with a baseball bat happens to be a) fun b) stress relieving c) cost effective :)
its cool to joke around but dont be an asswhole.

"telling me to move and telling me you can break into my car in 15 seconds and telling me not to put nice things in my car ARE NOT ANSWERS ON HOW TO KEEP THEIVES OUT OF YOUR CAR."
actually, they are. if there is nothing to steal, then why would they break in? living in a safer area eleminates thieves. correct?
"super glue razors all over you car is the stupidist thing ive ever heard. its dangerous to yourself in the event of a crash, it will leave glue all over nice things that shouldnt have glue, resell value is gone, the list of reasons why super gluing razors all over your car is dumb, is near infinite "
literacy is a valuable skill. if you had read what that post stated, you would find that it is only recommended to glue razors to the handles/sides of the box, not "all over your car". even then it is just an idea, i personally would never do that. if you dont like the idea thats fine, just skip past it. im not going to start a flame war here, so back on topic:
if your car is parked relativly close to you, have you thought about a paging alarm? that would let you know right away what is happening. most of the pagers will display if a door has been opened, the trunk/hood is open, the car has been started, etc.
edit: "there are a TON of things i COULD do that WOULD STOP YOU or ANYONE else from breaking into my car..."
and your inginuity results in you starting a thread like this? im confused.

Again your being a jackass. Im not going to move just to prevent a break in to my car, besides that i lived in a nice area ($200,000-300,000 homes) when some of the break ins occurred.
In fact, moving has nothing to do with break-ins considering the MAJORITY of them happened why in a store or a mall.... i guess your next suggestion is "NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR ANYWHER" right ? about as practical as moving...
Originally posted by SPL_Eclipse literacy is a valuable skill. if you had read what that post stated, you would find that it is only recommended to glue razors to the handles/sides of the box, not "all over your car".
from what i read they were talking about super gluing razors on the sub box, inside the cd deck, on gauges, etc. etc etc.... from my point of view THATS ALL OVER the car, and quite simply, STUPID.
Originally posted by SPL_Eclipse if your car is parked relativly close to you, have you thought about a paging alarm? that would let you know right away what is happening. most of the pagers will display if a door has been opened, the trunk/hood is open, the car has been started, etc.
First smart thing i've heard. I've considered this idea, however ive read that the majority of them are unreliable and the frequency doesnt travel very far. But yes, this is something to look into.
Originally posted by SPL_Eclipse edit: "there are a TON of things i COULD do that WOULD STOP YOU or ANYONE else from breaking into my car..." and your inginuity results in you starting a thread like this? im confused.
Well i could hire a company to armor my car (yes there are companies that do just this) with bullet proof glass and locks that cant be picked. or i could just lock my car in a fortress and hire armored gaurds to watch it.
Are these things practical.. or cost effective? NO. thats why i'm asking for PRACTICAL COST EFFECTIVE IDEAS.
Its really not that hard of a concept to understand. :)

Uhm, okay noob, shut the fuck up. I wasn't being a smart ass I was telling you the truth. You get broken into all the time...cuz you put stuff in your car. And there is NOTHING you can do to stop it. If I wanted your shit I would take it....fuck I could take your whole car and you'd never even know I was there.
So the point I was making is if you don't like it either move or change your stereo lifestyle....end of story.
There are two gurus in this audio forum. Josh and me. Josh is a nice guy and I'm a prick if you cross me.

hmmm...
noob? you think your some cool guy b/c you've posted here 343,354,796 times ? all that means is you have too much time on your hands.
there are a TON of things i COULD do that WOULD STOP YOU or ANYONE else from breaking into my car... the only catch is HOW MUCH MONEY i have to spend on these things.
and dont get your panties in a bunch b/c i dont let you walk all over me ;)

9058, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by DarkOne, May-14-04 05:43 PM
I'm finding that the more i read your posts, the less i like your attitude.
Sure, you know what you're about, but just because you get an answer you don't like doesn't mean you have any right to flame people here. Calm down. Read a little. Maybe research exactly who you're talking to, see what kinda answers they give on a regular basis before you start shooting your mouth off.
Check out vfaq.com to learn why your windows rattle and what you can do to fix them.
Invest in a nice expensive alarm with a proximity monitor and a remote paging ability.
There is nothing you can do that will stop a determined theif from breaking into your car. The best you can do is find things to deter them.
The razor blade reference came froma very long thread in theis section that actually contained a fair amount of usable information.

yeah, your being called noob because every post iv seen you create in about 4 sections are basic things that have been answered 57543038548 times.
if somebody wants your stuff, they are gonna get it. there are no more answers to your question. people have given you idea on alarms, add ons, physical deterrents, as well as hiding or removing expensive stuff. there is no miracle. what else do you want people to say? you could have an eleventy billion dollar alarm and if someone really wants what you have they will take a $2, throw it through your $300 window, and take your shit. end of story end of discussion. what else do you wanna hear? people have been trying to help. you ask, we reply with the best we can. if your not satisfied, go somewhere else. everyone will tell you the same thing...move, park somewhere else...a GARAGE, an alarm with accessories. theres nothig more...nothing. unless you wanna wait up every night with your baseball bat beating everybody down. i dunno about your, but most 300K neighborhoods dont have peoples cars broken into 4x in a row. and if you live in a 300k area, why isnt your car in a garage. i drop 300 g's on a house...it damn well better have at least a 2 car garage. you can defy everyone by putting your $800 decks in and fixing up your car...but unless you have money to keep replacing stolen parts and broken windows...i suggest you listen to what some of these fine gentlemen have advised. we arent exactly full of shit ya know ;)

9062, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by Uberingram, May-15-04 12:09 AM
Easy as hell to break into a 2G. The more noticable you make the car the more of an attractive target it makes. At home you best bet is a garage. Out and about...like Dino said, proximity alarm with paging and some damn fast legs.

thanks some of you for the serious replies.
ive been a member of many forums and in most cases half the people are complete stuck up jackasses and half the people are reasonable and will to help.
so coming here and asking questions as a new guy i was expecting stupid replies and i wanted to make it known right away that im not going to take shit.
i'm thankful for any real answers and serious posts.
the baby monitor idea was the best thing ive ever heard and im actually going to try it.
the 300k house has a 2 car garage, 2 cars for my parents that is, my car the most expensive of the 3 gets to set in the drive way. at least thats how it was befor i moved out. no im in an apt complex with no garages, and it sucks royally.
another idea i had was to run security cameras hidden in the parking lot of the complex to record a thiefs vehicle liscence plate number. wouldnt stop them from doing it but at least you could track them down.

the administrator of this side (DarkOne) basically said you have a bad attitude and you've pissed him off already. And you've officially pissed off the two guys who help out in the audio section. So I'd suggest you back off and go back to lurking and not posting.
Anything you would ever want to know is posted here. You REALLY don't need to ever post a question.
And no, there is no cheap way of keeping people from breaking into your car. It's going to happen, live with it or change your lifestyle.

9071, RE: Windows.... easy to break in ? Posted by jamez, May-16-04 12:47 AM
man seriously get off my case.
why is there a forum to post in if every question has been asked and you shouldnt post? that makes no sense.
im sorry anyone feels i have a bad attitude, but seriously no reason to get all pissy at me for asking some questions. how hard is it to skip my topic if you dont like it and dont want to respond ?
if these guys are here to "HELP" and be "GURUS" then they shouldnt have a problem having the same questions asked. you dont think a school teacher repeats him/her self EVERY YEAR when a new class starts? its the same thing. you put yourself in the position of knowing and teaching you have to deal with it.
i mean seriously, if nobody wants to be asked a question and im all going to get is crap for being curious about things i'll leave and find another forum.
This board isnt very easy to navigate compared to most, the "faqs" under sections dont answer alot of questions and werent even easy to find, the search button continues to bring up 1,000's of unrelated results and the same people continue to harrass me.
instead of a "hey welcome to the board, we're all here to help" i get "hey fuckin noob shut up and never post just use the search"

What is so hard to navigate about this site???
Anyone with a third grade reading level can see the links that take you directly to where you want to go...
also...try a filter when you use the search...there is a reason why that "advanced search" option is there...but if you find THAT too hard to navigate...I would suggest just turning off your computer, getting into your car, and driving into a wall as fast as possible..
No one here owes you anything, so don't piss them off..

as far as navigation gos..
im a graphic designer, web designer, seo, and full time internet advertiser.
this board is the most unefficient (spelling?) ive probably ever seen. instead of just showing a topic and all the replies inside... it shows all the damn replies on the forum and you have to click view all just to see the replies.
vbulletin , invisionboard and phpbb are all 3 10x better then the setup of this board.
and i never said anyone owed me anything. All i did was ask some questions and didnt want a bunch of smart ass answers.

If you don't like it, CHANGE YOUR PREFERENCES TO LINEAR. Then shut up.
It's not our fault you're too stupid to look at your preferences and set them in the way you prefer. :shrug
Or leave. :-) No one values your opinion and you don't do anything to help out. You bring nothing to the table. You serve only one purpose here - troll around, and piss people off. Continue, and i'll ban you. This is your only warning.
Actually, i'll probably just wait for you to reply and ban you anyway. You're too self righteous to tespond in any way other than the one that's going to get you banned, so just be prepared. Have fun on team-2g.com. Maybe your wonderful opinions and helpful nature will increase your userbase.

dont let the door hit you on teh way out!
if its so hard to navigate why does nobody complain but you? "ooooh, look at me, im a graphic designer and a web guru" well la-te-da buddy. good for you...were all so proud. the fact of the matter is this place isnt set up for flashy graphics and all manner of useless BS. this is a TECHNICAL forums. who honestly cares if we are just a plain-jane, no bs, to-the-point forum? several people i know have learned soo much here...and you know why? cuz they take their thumb outta their ear and listen to advice given. we dont beat around the bush with our replies, we give straight up answers. youve heard about every option there is available to protect your car, but its not good enough. you just want something for nothing. you dont wanna pay jack, but you want the best. and nobody here is quite for sure WHAT you want. you have been advised on every car security option known to man...and its not good enough. well if you dont like it, then go build somethign yourself...cuz obviously whatever your dreaming about dosent exist yet.
go somewhere else and bother some other poor fucks, cuz we dont need members like you here. unless your just a complete moron this site is perfectly navigable...even when your drunk!
