Hey everyone ... recently i custom made my quarter panel panels out of fiberglass to house a 6" and 4" phoenix gold coaxial speaker in each panel. came out great too .... all i did was wire into the factory speaker and removed the factory one as well but both speakers are wired to the factory wiring .... so today i turn on the radio and sound great until i turn up the volume some ... they sound real raspy and not that good when teh volume is turned up .... why is this? is it maybe because the little magnet on the back of the speaker is by a metal surface (actually its just the metal speaker cover on the panel) ?? what can i do to fix these and make them sound much better? PLEASE HELP!

You can't run 2 4 ohm speakers off a single head unit channel. You need an amp.

or 2 headunits powering each set of speakers. just tune em to the same radio station...

i have an amp, i guess i could run them to. it could i just tap into the subwoofer wires for the coaxial speakers?

tell us about your system and how you have it wired. sounds like you have a serious gain adjustment issue somewhere.

Dude, stop working on your car audio. Trust me. If you're buying Phoenix Gold stuff, then asking if you can hook them to your sub wires you have WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more money than you have knowledge. Take it to a professional and have them show you what to do.

my concern was that my other kicker system i had worked fine ... now when i put all this fiberglass enclosures in and the subs and amp they dont turn on .... i have 2 12" phoenix gold octane subs and a phoenix gold octane 5.0:4 amp. i have the rca cables running to the aux input on the amp and everything is connected to the cd player ... now for the coaxials.... a 4" and a 6" coaxial speaker in each qaurter panel and sound raspy when they get turned up ... i was asking about just wiring into sub wires because it will take forever to take out the fiberglass enclosures and would be much easier to just go into the sub wires .... let me know please. thanks.

ok, guess i should be more specific:

1) what are you powering off of the amp? just the subs? all the speakers in the car? the subs and the rear speakers?

2) on the same line as the firt question: are you powering any of the speakers off of the deck?

3) how are the 4" and 6"s wired in the back (series or parallel)?

4) do you have a high-pass crossover on the rear speakers?

If you wire them to the sub lines you will blow your coaxials. You need to give us a specified diagram of how you are building your system and let us straighten it out for you, cuz it sounds like you've bought some good shit then fuxored it up in the installation.

the coaxials are wired right to the factory quarter panel speaker wiring, both of them are (4" and 6"'s) and then i just have the subs running off of the amp. i think i found out why my subs arent turning on tho, i noticed that my amp has 2 diffrent section for speaker/bridged for the subs ... i have them screwed into the speaker section insetad of bridged liek i should i believe. i gonna try that tomorrw and see what happens, they should turn on then. now for the coaxials, liek i said, i just have them wired to the factory wiring, i gues i should run both pairs to the 'speaker' section on the amp correct? i think i was confusing my self. let me know what you think, lol.

take it to a shop. or buy new stuff when you blow all this up.

No, djtrickee is right cuz i told you that before. You REALLY need professional help because you obviously have no concept of what you're doing. Let me try to explain it one more time and if you don't listen this time then i'm not responding again.



1. You have TWO FOUR OHM SPEAKERS ATTACHED TO A LINE THAT SHOULD ONLY HAVE ONE FOUR OHM SPEAKER! This causes a resistance issue in your head unit. Of course your speakers will sound like crap.

2. No, you can't just "hook them up to the sub wires" because your subs will act like big coils and only allow your coaxials to see the same frequency response range as your sub. Doing this will also cause yet another resistance issue with your amplifier.

3. Another reason you can't hook them up to your amp is because it is a 2 channel amplifier running your subs. You've decided it's use so it's being used. If you want to run 1 pair of coaxials from your head unit and use the 2 channels of your amplifier to run the other pair of coaxials then you can't have subs.



SPL and I are both MECP certified installers or have been in the past. You REALLY need to go to a professional because you are going to either blow something up or start a fire in your car. It IS POSSIBLE, and you're headed that way really REALLY quick.

what if i run one pair of the coaxials from the cd player, and the other to the other channel on the amp? it is a 5.0:4 channel amp. then i would have one pair of coaxials going to the head unit, one going to the amp and teh subs to the amp too? how would that work out? thanks so much guys.

heres what i would do if i were you:

run the front speakers and 6" rear speakers off of the headunit. that would be 4 speakers total, the HU can handle that. then, i would run the subs off of two of the amp channels, and the 4" (in the rear) off of the other two channels. why? becuase you have the ability to adjust the crossover and gain via the amp for the 4". thats the weak point in your system becuase you cant expect them to keep up with the rest of the speakers at full volume. im not really sure why you even have a set of 4"ers back there, but if you insist on having them thats the only way you will have complete control over the system.

yes that was what i was planning on doing but i was going to run the 4" of the headunit .... i have a 4" and a 6" in the quarter panels mainly for show reasons, looks real good at shows, it is deffinatly different. i thank you guys very much for you help and i will be re-wiring everything on tuesday and i will post how it goes. thanks to everyone and i gave props to everyone as well. thanks again!
