8713, Pain generator installation... Enought power by sharing? Posted by jsupetran, Apr-07-04 05:56 PM
Hey I have a Peizo pain generator, and I was wondering if the installation is as simple as splicing into the power and ground wire of the outside siren, at the main harness? Will the pain generator and the main siren have enough power if they are hooked up to the same power wire?
I will also be installing a backup battery so will both have enough power to emit the highest sound possible?
Thanks!

Don't hook them up to the same power wire coming off the alarm!
Most alarms will tell you the max load of each wire in the tech. manual, which is normally about equal to the load of the siren, but anways...
Make that wire trigger a SPDT relay which then runs to your siren and pain generator.
BTW, you'll want to hook up the power source for the relay to your backup battery.

What is a pain generator?

It makes a really loud high frequency noise (that's in the interior of your car) to try to hurt intruder's ears.

Try to hurt their ears? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA....you've never heard one of these things before have you? They don't "hurt your ears" they basically scramble the functions of your brain. Your brain can't handle the input from them because it's too far beyond the pain threshold. So your brain shuts you down and goes into "subconscious flee" mode. Basically you panic and run away.
Make sure you hide those well cuz they can be stopped by some well placed duct tape.

is it illegal to mount those on the outside of the car (like a regular alarm siren). i don't wanna hook it up to my alarm i just want one on a play switch to mess with people outside the car. =)
i'm gonna add one to the interior of my car and tap it into the alarm too though.

i thought most alarm siren outputs can handle at least two sirens or so?

Yes it's illegal. If you turn on your siren for your alarm while driving you can go to jail for a couple years if the cop wants to be a dick about it. Besides that, if you pulled up next to me and fired off a pain generator I would pull you out of the car and beat the fuck out of you. Go listen to one and you'll understand why. They make you almost piss yourself.

aaron speaketh the truth. i have one of those in my car...i went ahead and just spliced it in...PLENTY of juice. the sound dosent dip or really change pitch...its a constant hi pitched emission of noise. loud as hell in the interior, most people cant stand to be inside the car. i tried it and nearly flipped! very good investment, because if you think about it...exterior alarms do little these days. we have become so accustomed to them, that 95% of the time we know its just a false alarm. keeping theives out of your interior keeps your shit there and your car from being stolen. sure..a pro could outsmart your alarm..but how many pro's do we really have running around? its just a bunch of kids. the PG's are cheap and good insurance...i sugggest anyone with an alarm get one

I definetly agree. These extra precautions are easy to do and I am glad I didn't pay the extra 150 to have the installers do it themselves.

ya i know turning on your siren while driving is illegal an stuff. most alarms can be set off with the panic button even while driving though (sometimes you hafta adjust the settings). but like is it illegal to have a pain generator on the exterior? so like when your car alarm gets set off the pain generator on the outside goes off too. just wonderin if there's laws against that since they seem to be quite unpleasant. i mean it'd be a little more irritating than your typical false alarm. :P

Pain generators are highly directional. You have to mount them inside the vehicle pointing at the drivers head because even 30degrees off axis and they are pointless. They also use the reflection of the cab to confuse the person. If you mounted one on the outside it would be litte more than annoying.

They are on EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEBAY.
Search under "piezo mini siren" aka pain generator, aka model DEI 513T.

Like i said, go for it if you want the fuck beat out of you. These things tend to stir up some serious "pissed off" emotions when used in a "joking" manner.
