8688, does this sound about right? (sub and amp question) Posted by Boofer97rs, Apr-05-04 03:16 PM
Hey guys. Im thinkin about purchasing a crystal cmpx2 12" sub. Its supposedly one of the best subs on the market (good spl, great sq). Anyways, it has dual 2 ohm coils and is 800w rms.
So what kind of amp do I need? I was thinking that I if I wired the coils in parallel that would produce a 1 ohm load. So if I found an amp that was 800w rms @ 1 ohm stable, that should work right? Lemme know your opinions on amps. (would like to spend 400 for the amp, since the sub is costing me 400 by itself)

If you want something that is gonna sound good and have CLEAR power I would suggest looking on ebay for a alpine or memphis amp. Just my 2 cents :) Though im kinda partial to alpine myself just put this in my car last night

Yeah, I was leaning towards a memphis amp since i had one in my car before and liked it. I just need to know if a 1 ohm stable amp will work with dual 2 ohm coils...thats whats confusing me

if im thinking right you should be able to wire that sub for either 1 ohm or 4 ohm
you can use the fosgate wiring guide for info on it
