FatMat, same as Dynomat extreme but cheaper. If you get Dynomat you're just buying the name.

not ONLY do you get the damper material, you get a knife, roller, degreaser, and instructions. this stuff has been tested by tons of car audio people, and it works just as well as all the expensive stuff. :thumbsup

I bought fatmat for 70 plus shipping on ebay. It was 100sq ft and pretty much covered my car with two layers, everything except the roof and the doors. Very happy with the results. Plus the package included, like SPL says, a knife, roller, this powder stuff.

Did anyone install the fatmat themselves? I always wondered how hard and how long it would take to do it.

^^^i havnt installed fatmat before, but i installed a TON of dynamat in my previous eclipse. theres not that much to it, just remove the center consol, seats, rear seat bottom, etc. and take the carpet/insulation out. then you use a cleaning agent to remove any gunk (i used alcohol). apply the damper to the metal, using anything you can to push it down into the contours (i used my hands/fingers to do this....i woudl recommend using a roller as my hands were SORE after i was done, lol). also, heat makes the material more pliable, so a heat gun or hair dryer will come in handy....or you can just lay the sheet out on the pavement for a few minutes in hot weather. make sure you add plenty to the firewall, wheel wells, and transmission hump, as those are the major sources of induced noise.

overall, its not hard to do, but can be time consuming given that you have to strip the interior. even if youve never disassembled the interior before, i would estimate a 4-6 hour install time to do the whole floor of the car.

There's really nothing technical about a fatmat install unless your like this guy >>> :nuts

Just take apart the seats, plastic side panels, carpet. Unless your removing the headliner. Just take your time. I did mine at night, started at 5, ended it at 11ish,

This sounds pretty easy to do. I think I'll try it on a warm Saturday that I have off.

Thanks guys for the responses, fatmat it is. I bought a fiberglass headliner the other day, so I would like to deaden everything at once so I don't have to redo anything. I'm planning on running 2 memphis 12's at 1000 watts rms total. If I cover the hell out of everything in the car, it should help alot with road noise and kill the vibrations from the subs right? Should I get an extra roll since I;ll be doing my headliner, the floor, firewall, doors and pretty much every single panel in the car?

I just want to use it to get rid of my rattles ,vibrations, and noises from my loud exhaust and solid motor mounts. So I'm just getting one roll. In your^^^ case I would get two.

I've heard bad things about fatmat not sticking in hot temps from peeps at caraudioforum.com . I was looking at the second skin stuff that one of the people on there is a rep for. Its a little more expensive, but do you think its worth it?

My buddy bought some stuff called B-Quiet. Pretty sweet, thick,and shiny chrome finish on the top!

If you're putting a new headliner in your car do this:


Remove headliner.
Remove jute on roof.
Put 2 layers of mat on sheetmetal.
Tape off holes around structural beams.
Get a few cans of expanding insulation foam.
Fill structural beams with expanding foam.
Let cure.
Get spray adhesive and re install jute onto the fatmat.
Install headliner.

I did this, minus the fiberglass headliner, and you won't BELIEVE the difference in wind noise! :thumbsup



And about the stuff not sticking in hot weather. All products, Dynomat included, use a heat activated adhesive. So when you're applying it you want to make sure you have the small roler that comes with the kit and some good heat resistant gloves. Then while installing it you want to cut it to fit, pull off the backing, push it down with your fingers, then heat it up with the heat gun until it's smooshie and roll/press with fingers into all the cracks and contours.

Most people who have dynomat or fatmat fall off don't install it right. You don't want to try and install little squares of material. I see a lot of guys think they'll be all slick about it and cut little squares and triangles to make it look perfect. Don't, you want as large of a piece to go in there as you can get. More connected surface area you can get the more adhesion you get, then it doesn't fall or peel off :thumbsup

How did you^^^ install your fatmat? In large pieces or small? Heat gun or hairdryer? Also, anything else that might help me out.

both small and large peices, i just made sure everything was covered, no vibration now at all. no heat gun either, my cars black so i shut the hatcvh and let it bake in there then opened it up and smushed the fatmat down a little bit again

its really easy imo
