8084, stereo doesnt work quick question?(kinda long)
Posted by stoyboycs, Feb-02-04 07:52 PM
Ok so anyways I was installing an amp and sub and now the stereo wont light up or play at all I mean its like the whole head unit is dead but I know it has power cause I can still insert and eject the cd, but the light on my amps to show there is power going to it dont light up, but anyways i'm just wondering if I blew a fuse somewhere or if it is infact the head unit. I dont think its the head unit cause I changed out that head unit for another one I had and it wouldnt work either so I'm thinking its a fuse somewhere. But anyways I tried searching for an answer but couldnt find anything so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

How did you hook the amp up?

12v from battery
Ground to body
Blue remote wire from head unit to remote on amp?

If you did it this way then here's another question. Did you put the fuse in your 12v power cable in the very last thing or did you leave it in during the install? Because if you left it in, then grounded your amp without having the remote wire hooked up your amp would have been pulling current. And there's a big chance you had a voltage spike back across your remote wire which did something nasty.

I've never heard of being able to eject and put in a cd without it playing. Does the face light up?

You need to go over your setuup and inspect everything really well and explain more. We can't really tell you what's wrong without more information.

alright heres the thing the headunit wont light up at all and wont play anything but I know everything worked because it played for like 20-25 seconds and then it completely shut off and it is doing what is doing now, which led me to believe its a fuse somewhere but I replaced the fuse in the amp and the headunit and still nothing so I think its a fuse somewhere else but I dont know where. So I just wanted to get oppinions from ya'll and see if you thought it was the fuse. But like I said I know its getting power because my cd players is ejecting the cd and will pull it in. So I'm lost.

Well there are two fuses in the top right hand side of your fuse box under the hood. ONe is a 15 and the other is a 10. One says "radio" and the other says "dome lights" or something like that. Both can effect your radio because one is constand and the other is switched. Maybe your cd player is ejecting because it still has constant but won't come on because it doesn't have switched. I don't know, but check it out.

That would also be why you don't have power to your amp, because your amp gets turned on by secondary switch power, aka, remote wire from your head unit.
