would a udp affect the power of a system in any way?

it shouldn't. Only the alternator pulley would. Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

so i wont need that extra belt you can buy with the udp?

i'm under the impression that it does affect alternator output by underdriving the alternator (making it spin slower than it should). i'm not sure if there's any way you can get around this.

What some people do is get the udp and then get a oversized alternator pulley (which you might think it contradicts, but it's lighter, and accesories are still underdriven).

Think of it this way:
Your alternator maintains the car's voltage, so as long as your still above 13v your good to go, just have a good battery (which your amperage comes from) and a power capacitor (if your running a lot of power, for quick discharging).

If your alternator can't keep up with your battery once it's underdriven (you must be running lots of power) then you should get an aftermarket alternator (rewinding isn't worth the value). I recommend stinger.

would i still get around the same amount of power at the wheels from the udp even with that alternator pulley on there?

yes get the alternator overdrive pulley, its only like 30 shipped. Its lighter then the steel one.

Its actually smaller, making the UDP and ODP ratio closer to the stock one, At least thats what it looks like. :wary

would i still be getting power with both on? if so, would it be anywhere near the added power of just the udp?

UDP and high output alternator is the way to go.

I run the AFX UDP, and a Optima yellow top battery. At idle(around 850 RPM), my voltage sags just slightly, mostly when I have the headlights on, or the stereo system on. A quick blip of the gas, and its right back up. That few hundred RPM that the UDP takes off the alternator, makes the voltage drop just slightly at idle. I have had no problems with it like this, but i would not let the car idle for a long time frame, with much current draw going on, like blasting your system, or leaving the headlights on...just dont let it idle with a larger current draw, and you will be fine..A UDP will prob shorten the life of the alterator also, because of the increased amperage load at idle..since the alt is turning a bit slower..

no it wont. But it still more then the stock ones.

I competed for several years with an UDP and stock alternator. Never had a problem. Just depends on how much power you are pushing.
