I have been to 3 different places, and I have been shutdown by all of them for a remote start install. I would like the Viper 791XV Responder, which is a pretty nice setup from what I have heard. XtremeRS can do it for me and get me a pretty good deal, but he is 3 hours away from me. Can anyone tell me how hard one of these would be to install. I have installed my headunit in my car with an amp to drive my MB Quart component speakers. I am not completely incompetant, but I hate wiring and electrical stuff. Has anyone ever done a write up on this? I can get the alarm off of Ebay for about $250. Would it be worth it to install it myself, or find someone to do it for me.

the thing you need to realize is that in most places RS on a MT is illegal... that's why most shops won't touch it. too much liability. if you wanna do a RS on a MT right you need to put in a lot of extra safety measures. you DO NOT want any possiblity of the RS being activated if the car is not neutral. if you have a basic understanding of electronics it isn't hard... mostly just cutting and splicing. depends if you're willing to put in the time. i would highly suggest you read up on the various safety measures people have used. it's usually somethign along the lines of magnetic or mercury switches mounted on the shifter to detect the shifter's position.

To the best of my knowledge a RS is not illegal in Indiana. One place actually told me that they did an install on a Civic Si once. The install guy said that he just didn't want to deal with it. I also understand that there are a number of safety measures that must be in place.

I have been de-bugging a neutral safety switch for my 98 5-speed and will be trying it out over the next week. I used a Keyence proximity detector to determine if the car is safely in neutral. If all goes well I'll post a diagram here later for everyone here to check out. My design will not allow a start if the emergency brake is off or if it's not in neutral. If there is a system failure it will still allow a manual start. I have a neutral indicator LED on the dash and a tone alert if you park the car without placing the shifter in neutral before exiting. In the event of a failure (unlikely) to an unsafe condition, I have even gone so far as to prepare a dual mercury tilt switch to shut off the system if it feels the vehicle lurch forward or backward. I always have to make things difficult.

I safely installed mine using a magnetic security window switch (avalible @ RadioShack), so my car won't RS unless it's in neutral and the e-brake is engaged.

I will try to find you the diagrams I made.

*Note: do not attempt to do a RS on a MT unless you fully understand basic electronics (relays, diodes, etc...)
