I am going to start installing my amps in my car tonight. I have a JL Audio 300/4 amp for my MB Quart 6.5" components, and I am looking for either 2 500/1's or 1 1000/1 JL amp for my 2 Kicker 12"L7's. I do not have the 500/1's, 1000/1 yet, but it is in the near future. I should be getting the MB Quart components in the mail tomorrow, and I should get the Kickers by this weekend. I know I will need 3 sets of RCA cables to run from the head unit back to the amps in the trunk, power cables, fuses, distro block, ground cables, speaker cables, and I am planning on running a cap.

My main question is how long of RCA cables will I need, and how long of a power cable will I need to run from the battery back to the amp. I figure I should probably use a 1 gauge cable back to a distro block in the trunk and then go to my amps from there. Another question I have is what type speaker gauge should I run to my component speakers from my 300/4 amp? I think this system should sound awesome as soon as I get it setup. Let me know your opinoins. By the way, my head unit is a Pioneer DEH-9400MP.

depending on where you mount the distribution block in the trunk, youll probably need about 15-16 feet of primary power cable. the easiest place to run it through is the huge grommet in the passengers side footwell. pull up the carpet and youll see what im talking about. i would also suggest taking out the front seats (just 8 bolts) to allow you to move the carpet around a little. run the power down the passengers side and the rcas/etc down the drivers side.

Yeah, 15ft should be plenty for you. I also think that 1 ga cable is overkill for your setup, not to mention more expensive. You should be just fine with a single 4 ga power cable from the battery. I run 2 DEI 1100 D's, and a DEI 600 on one 4 gauge without any probs. I would say 4 gauge is a minimum though. I also like to run a separate ground cable from the neg of the batt to the fender, as another ground point, to help ground the chassis a bit better. Be sure to use good, clean, bare metal grounds, and use ring terminals that you bolt to the car. Good grounds are overlooked quite often..and always use the same gauge ground as power cable.
