7224, Question-- wiring issue with head unit and power antenna Posted by JasonESi_T, Sep-24-03 03:36 PM
When I installed my Pioneer head unit earlier last summer, I anticipated installing a power antenna. In doing so, I noticed it had a separate line out for a power antenna. So, I brought a wire out to the trunk/antenna area, and left it there for the day I did indeed install the power antenna.
Today I installed that antenna that apparently works great. However, it won't extend its mast unless I power it from a source that has 12v power obviously. The problem is, that wire that's the output for my power antenna on my head unit won't power when the radio turns on in FM mode and therefore won't cause my antenna to ascend upwards!! :-(
The antenna works great because I can power it up from another source and it works like a charm. I've also separately tested that line out from the head unit and there isn't any juice coming out of it when I'm in FM mode.
I know I'm not a stereo/electrical expert, so perhaps I'm missing something. Any ideas? Am I misinterpreting the actual purpose of the antenna power line from this head unit?
Thanks in advance!

It probably shorted out at one point. Unfortunately, Pioneer doesnt fuse their ant outputs :( Basically its fried, unless you tear the HU open, and fix the output transistor that prob fried. Dont ask how to do that, never done it :p You can use the system remote output though, only downfall to that, is the ant will stay up when you listen to a CD...
