also, this has only cost me 30 bucks for 2 gallons fiberglass, i got the wood(3/4", great condition) from my dads scrap pile.

the assembly looks great, but i would be worried about using plywood for the box. it is not very dense, and is subject to flexing and cracking. you are on the right track by fiberglassing it though, that should give it a bit more integrity. :thumbsup

Aside from being rigid and prone to cracking, plywood also doesn't hold in sound well. If i were you i would have you MDF board, it's very strong and the acoustic qualities are excellent, thats what most boxes you buy in stores are made of. I made a custom box last year, but i didnt like it, so i took it out and replacing it with a full fiberglass enclosure.

wouldn't the fiberglass help to hold in the sound better?

yup glass will hold in the sound better but i would just put dyna mat in there would sound better. also when you do get that box finished mash in some poly fill cause the space looks sorta big if ya know what i mean. but all in all for that price you cant beat it :thumbsup

you would also have to put down 7 layers of 1.5 oz matting to be strong

its not that the plywood doesnt "hold the sound in" (unless it cracks and releases pressure), its that it negates the point of having a sealed box by flexing. flexing produces anomilties in the total Q of the system, and confuses the hell out of the suspension of the sub, leading to a very "peaky" frequency responce and a lack of lower bass output. its similar to bouncing a deflated basketball in a way. assuming you can find some way to properly brace the structure (through internal bracing, fiberglass, sound dampner, etc..) that enclosure will work fine, there just might be a little more work to do, lol.

youve already gone far enough in the build process that you might as well finish it and see how it sounds...afterall, if you hook everything up and listen...and you are satisfied, it doesnt matter if the sub is sitting on top of the valve cover, its still worth it. :thumbsup

haha yea i seen some ghetto things when i used to live in mississippi, there was a kid that just screwed his sub right behind his seat was just up there with 8 screws but hey it sounded alright so i guess if it sounds good it dont matter. but damn talk about ghetto, and the worst thing is that it wasnt even a free air sub it was some generic crunch crap

If I were you I would strenghten it up by putting some pins inside between the "walls" of the box.Dunno how to explain...to make it more rigid I mean.One thing that might occur nowis that the plywood flexes and then you will get a hollow sounds ince there will be air between the plywood and the fiberglass. BEst thing to do is to use MDF from the start but try your setup out..just strengthen it up a little first :-) Also put dampening material inside...

Looks good though and I think it will be bad ass when its done:-)
