6785, How to get 6.5s in doors (already searched) Posted by Boofer97rs, Jul-30-03 06:24 PM
i was wondering how i could get my 6.5s to fit into the doors. The stock 5.25s little "pod" is square and the mounting holes are at the four corners. Mine are circular and have 6 holes. Should i get a thin piece of wood, attach it to the four holes in the door, and then drill the 6 holes into the wood?? that probably made no sense, sorry, but hopefully somebody knows what im talking about.

Theres really nowhere for me to drill any holes because the speaker's mounting holes sit higher than the stock holes, and there isnt anything there.

Installing the speakers is pretty easy. You should have a black "pocket" that the 5.25" speakers were installed to. Take that pocket out of the door and cut the back of the pocket out with an air saw or dremel. Once removed, you should be able to install the speaker with little trouble.
Another solution: make a ring out of 3/4" mdf that will accomodate the speaker and allow you to mount it to the door.
Good luck to ya!

Theres actually room without cutting out the pocket, i was just wondering what the best way to get it to stay in there was. The holes just dont match up for me to screw anything in.

Im pretty sure that the eclipses with the upgraded infinity sound systems had 6.5 in the doors... you might have to get a pod from one of those.....
i know what ya mean about the square holes .... it sucks...

hey its really easy to do, only 4 holes are required to drill, and you don't have to cut the pod, throw up your email and I'll send you a pic.

You don't have to drill holes, just get some self tapping screws or stingers. It's not hard.
I say fuck it and get some oversized 6.5's and cut your pod and get some good speakers in there :)

I used that black pod thing to make a template and then I made a baffle out of 1/4 MDF and I had no problems fitting 6.5s in there and I have old Kicker Comp 6.5 woofers which are pretty damn beefy! Very easy to do!
