I have Rockford Punch 6.5" speakers in the door now but i may now put my huge box back in the trunk. SO i wan to put 6x9 boston acoustic speakers in the door which i also have oin the rear. My question is, is our door panel deep enough or will i need to fabricated something or hacksaw the door panel to get it in? IF anyone has pics of this i will gladly appreciate seeing them.

I don't know how deep your speakers are but I have 6.5" Polk MOMO components and those bitches are HUGE. So I'm sure depth wise you'll be fine. As for cutting out the oval I don't know. Why do you want 6X9's anyway? Better and cleaner bass from a 6.5...not as loud, but better.

6x9s can handle alot more power for what i want IMO and you don't have to be as careful with the adjustments of the amp with those. I blew two sets of Mobile Quart 6.5 and i almost cried cause those aren't cheap either. I am very heavy into audio and i can't get a decent sound in the eclipse with the 6.5" speakers being that this is a hatchback. I was thinking it can be done but my boston Acoustics are huge and i wasn't sure how deep the rer is and i am afraid of window clearance.

window clearence shouldnt be a problem, weve got quite a bit of space....just make sure to do the install with the windows in the "down" position to make sure. ;) i would be more concerned with getting them to fit in length wise. youll need to fabricate a custom baffle and probably trim away at the door with some tin snips (or whatever) to get them to fit. you will probably have to modify/trim the plastic door panel as well so that it will fit back on over the speakers.

i dont think it should be *too* hard, but it will take a bit of time to get everything to fit correctly. make sure to seal the speakers tight to the baffle, and secure the baffle tightly to the door. dont leave any room for a negative phase interaction between the rear and front waves. expanding foam works wonders in nooks and crannies, LOL.

I have Sony Explodes in the front and the back... fronts just have to modify the openeing for it fit, theres always some "extra" metal that can be shaved off the openening to install a larger speaker, any stereo shop can do this for you

Fitting a set of 6x9's into the door would be rather easy. Clearance isn't an issue, but you will have to build a set of spacer rings to move the magnet away from the window.

I'm installing a set of 8" subs in my door and they fit with a .75" thick mdf spacer ring.

Why would you put 6x9's in the car is my question? Chevy introduced them to give some bass to their cars. They have a horrible sound, when compared to a 6.5" speaker. If you have subs, you don't need bass, so go with a better sound quality speaker. Turn your bass down on the head unit and the bass up on your sub amp and you will have a better performing system, IMO.

THey sound much better then 6.5s to me. What kind of music do you listen to? For rap muisic 6x9s are much better and can take a beating. I am going to give this a shot eventually.....

I'm a certified sound quality judge for car audio, sanctioned in three judging bodies. The only way to get proper tonal accuracy in the sub bass range is with a sub. Sorry! It's not me, it's physics!

6x9's will give you more mid-bass than a 6.5" round speaker, but at what price? The mid-bass will tend to be more "sloppy" in with an eliptical speaker.

I am not sure what you are getting at but i am not entering any competitions with my system. I currently have 6.5" in the doors and 6x9s in the rear. As far as sound a clarity goes i like the 6x9s alot better because it allows for more bass to travel through it therfore being able to take that beating i mentioned earlier. I am not a bass man, but i do like for my music to have some substance and with 6.5s i don't get that. Yes i get a much cleaner sound but with Rap Music, which is mostly waht i listen to, I am not looking for that sound. I am not understanding why you are telling me to keep the 6.5? I am sure that with a fine tuned amp you should be able to elimante some of the "sloppy" sound you get from the 6x9s. Is there a site that you know that can better demonstrate what you are referring to? I just don't see but would like to see what you are talkinf about...

As far as a site, I can't give you one. The best way to demonstrate this is to actually listen to a vehicle. Of course, the vehicle will need to have a full system, which includes a 4-channel amp for the mids and highs, a sub amp, subs and a h/u.

If you like the sound of 6x9's, by all means go with it. I'm not here to change your mind or anything. I'm just posting some insight to the characteristics of various speakers. 6x9's will give you better bass, but it will be a little sloppy in the higher volumes. In order to get true bass, a sub will be in order.

Have fun and I would recommend attending a show from the following bodies. www.iasca.com www.slapshow.com Both of these will feature cars with realistic sound stages and great tonality. Once you listen to some of these cars, you will start to understand what I'm describing.
