6414, anybody know something about Eclipse speakers?
Posted by john98gs, Jun-21-03 02:02 PM
My stock speakers are just about gone. I listened to some Eclipse speakers today and they sounded good. My question is - does anybody have opinions about them, good or bad. Seems kind of funny I'm going to get some speakers the same name as my car. I wonder when they'll make some Civic speakers for the Honduh folks?

anyways, eclipse makes somre great stuff. IMO..a tad bit pricy for what you get unless you buy them off of ebay or somthing, however im always picky about money stuff, lol.

edit...thats wierd: it wont let me put "sic" inside brackets "[]" in order to signify that i corrected a mispelling in your quote. oh well, there is supposed to be one in there.

SPL wise, dont go with Eclipse subs, because they are more so made for SQ, so you'll get a lot of distortion turning the non fader up all the way, but a pair of 12's could easily hit near 145 realisticly. I have 2 12 aluminums hitting at 142.2 with about 700 watts total to both. Each can handle 1000.
If you wanted to go with SQ, go with Focal compnent fronts ($1,300+) but those are competition speakers. It all epends on what you persoannly want out of your system.
LOUD or QUALITY MUSIC - both would be insane cost wise.

I have Eclipse compnents in the front and coaxils in the rear, very nice for what I paid for them.

I used to hit arond 150-152 db's with a pair of the aluminum cone 15's, in a ported box, back in the day with my Grand Prix. I won several db dragracing events with this setup. Ran 2 Directed 1100d's with it. It was lound. I found it very interesting that Eclipse directly says that these subs wont work right in a ported box. Using my computer aided box design software, i made one hellofa box. It sounded clean, hit hard, and was very loud. They make lots of bass, if done correctly. And they like power, LOTS of power. YOu can feed them 2000 watts a piece. The all metal frame, all metal cone, make for a excellent way to dissipate all the heat. The subs can take that abuse and power, cause i had my 1100d's brided togher in mono to the pair of subs(yeah, i ran them at 1/2 ohm!)

Pricy? I have never seen them for sale. I got mine from a friend cause he repo's shit out of the storage sheads his mom ownes if they don't pay up and he sold it to me for 20 bucks. Is that a good deal or what? But I also had a question about it. It is like plastic or something so can I paint it to match the car if I wanted to? I think I could but would I have to use a... um... the vynil/rubbery paint stuff since it moves? TIA.

^^^if you are talking about spray painting the cone of a speaker (the moving part), DONT DO IT. it totally changes the resonance of the speaker and might make it sound terrible.

Oh well thank you. I was seriously considering doing it too. Glad I didn't:D.
