6123, Last Question I sware (Best Sub Hookup)

I want to hook up my sub the best possible way. I am running the following:

Alpine mrd-500
about 450 RMS at 2 ohms (averaged RMS between 12V and 14.4V)
about 250 RMS at 4 ohms (averaged RMS between 12V and 14.4V)

Alpine Type R 1241D (dual 4 ohm)
300 watt RMS

Would it be bad to hook it up at 2ohms since it is 150 watts over RMS or is this kind of wattage only at high volume levels? I want to match it to the amp as best as possible.

As of right now, I will be wiring it for 4 ohms so that I don't damage the coils by running too much power to them. I am just curious how other people wire subs.

Thanks,
-Kurt

put both coils in parallel and make the amp work! LOL. you always want to have some extra power to work with, its called "headroom". just set the gain knob on the amp correctly and youll be fine.

also: if you have each coil wired to a seperate channel, make sure the signal is in mono. otherwise, you are sending a different signal (discreet L and R) to each coil, and thats going to negativly effect its performence.

Thanks again! After posting my message, I switched it to two ohm and will make adjustments from there (turn the gain down). The amp has all digital controls and no knobs. I haven't been able to locate the gain control as of yet. Maybe alpine calls it something else.

Here are the adjustments the amp has:
Input Mode
LPF
Subsonic
Parametric Eq
Bass Comp
Time Corr
Phase
Amp Set
Safe Mode
Memory

i think it is the bass comp one. It has a 0, -6, -12, and -18 setting or something like that. I hope that helps.

dang newfangled gizmos! what ever happened to good ol' knobs??! :P wish i could hep you out with that one, but i havent a clue. im guessing its either "bass comp" or "amp set", the others are pretty obvious as to thier function.

I would have to say the Amp set would be the gain, the settings for the bass comp sound more like slopes for a built in x-over.....

*edit* Nevermind, just went out to Alpines site and looked over the owners manual and the damn thing doesn;t seem to have a gain control to it. Best advice I can give on this one would be to cross your fingers and hope that the damn thing is "smart" enough to not blow your subs..... Agrees with ^^^^^ stupid new fangled ideas, just put some damn knobs on it dammit.....
