Sorry for the recent overload of questions but I am just trying to decide how to wire up my new system.

Here's the system:
- Alpine MRD-500 Amp (approximate RMS 450 x 1 - 60 amp fuse)
- Pioneer GMX-314 Amp (approximate RMS 30 x 4 - 25 amp fuse)
- Rockford Fosgate Dual Amp Wiring Kit (replacing the main fuse with
an 80 amp inline)
- Rockford Fosgate 1 Farad Cap
- Rockford Fosgate Capacitor Distribution Block

The Rockford Fostgate Capacitor Distribution Block has:
1 4 gauge power (from battery)
1 4 gauge ground (to car chassis)
3 8 gauge power (to amps - One for Pioneer Amp, one to Alpine Amp, one spare)
3 8 gauge ground (to amps - One for Pioneer Amp, one to Alpine Amp, one spare)

Wiring in this fashion, I would run both amps of the capacitor. Only the Alpine should ever use the cap as it will be powering the sub and the pioneer (which is powering the mids and highs) should never touch the stored power. Correct?

I would like to wire my system the way I mentioned above to have a centralized distribution and both amps are protected by the cap. What do you guys think?


Alternative Idea:
Use a distribution block to distribute the power to each amp and then wire the capacitor inline to the Alpine amp only.

it makes no diffference where the cap is, power will always come from the highest voltage potential, so even if its soldered onto the terminal of the bass amp, power will still go from it to the smaller amp if thats what needs it. so anyways, just put it wherever you want in the wiring path, it wont make any difference.

I am going to wire my capacitor as mentioned above (both amps on the cap) as this is why I originally bought the capacitor distribution block.

I also thank you for answering my altenator install question in the general forum section. I plan to see what happens when I install the system. If I notice my headlights dimming while the stereo is playing, I will upgrade the altenator.

It has been a learning curve for me in the audio world. You have to admit I have progressed nicely with some tutoring and a whole bunch of reading.

ya, youve come a long way! thats always a great thing, plus the fact that you are taking your time to learn how to do this stuff yourself instead of paying a shop gets a big :thumbsup

The capacitor should be as close to the amps as possible!:thumbsup

just a stupid question.. the cap always give power to what needs it the most, now if my system is turned on and lets say that my batt is low, would the starter pull power from the cap? Not like the cap would give enough for the starter or anything. just a stupid question.

^^^yes, the starter could in fact use the cap as well. as you mentioned though..it wouldnt really do anything. actually, i do know that the voltage of the battery falls dramatically when strting the car, so the cap *might* actually do just that at every startup.
