does anyone know the correct way to wire 2 batteries for a 2g. do they need to be in series or parallel? also what is needed to relocate the battery to the spare tire well? TIA

batteries are always run in parallel. also, you MUST MUST MUST have the same brand/type of battery and they must be the same age.

to relocate the batteries(s) to the spare tire well, all you do is run a heavy guage (2AWG at minimum) wire from the alternator back to the tire well and connect it to the batteries + terminal, duh, lol. :P

one thing to consider is fusing. in my opinion, youll want to fuse the wire at the battery bank in the tire well. if any others more expeirenced in electrical theory wish to jump in and add somthing here it would be appreciated.

a better option would be this: to add a high-powered relay to your current electrical system. you could do the same thing with a battery isolator, however those usually reduce the voltage by as much as 1 volt, and thats a :nono . i prefer the relays (plus they are cheaper!). with that setup, when the car is off current is only drawn from the second battery, and the main battery is isolated (no more dead batteries from leaving your lights on, stereo on, etc..), however when the car is started both batteries are run in parralel, so they are both being charged. one thing to consider though...with this setup you will be putting more strain on the alternator, especially if you drain the second battery considerably with the car off. upon the next startup the alt. will be struggling to recharge that battery and run the rest of the cars electronics. do a search form any search engine for somthing like "car high power relay" and you should find info/vendors/etc.

if you have tryed this like i have, you need a run either a distributor from the alt. then connect the starter,fuse box to it, or another 4-2 awg wire from the batteries from the back, to a distriutor in the front to the alt,fusebox.

Just curious why you want to add a second battery? For some applications it makes sense... as you need a longer run time for the stereo when the car is turned off or if you need a larger reserve of current for "burps" in a SPL competion. However, if you are trying to suplement the electrical system for booming around on the streets with your high power amplifier the battery is not such a good idea and is going to be little benefit overall.

An isolator would recommended to ensure that both batteries charge and will mostly eliminate the need for two identical batteries.

wouldn't be better to just change the alt to a larger one?? Wouldn't that solve the power problem? Adding a 2nd batt is kinda like adding a cap to your system, helps a little bit but a larger alt si def the best way to go.
