Well for someone who reads and reads and reads, i always end up screwing things up :+ I bought a 12" SVC RF Sub, and the appropiate box states i need 1.25" CI Sealed Box, i went to best buy and decided to get a Q-Logic box, but got a type 1 .85 CI instead of a type 2 1.25", would a bigger box make a noticable difference? Can i stuff it with the "Cotton-like" material instead of getting a bigger box and get the same results?

yes, it will make a difference in the sound. in a nutshell, the low bass will be reduced, while the upper bass and midbass will be incresed. transient response will be better. basically, it will probably sound great with stuff like rock (kickdrums) but bad with stuff like classical and rap. you could but in some fill material, but it isnt a great cure. it definatly wont make up for a deficiency of almost .5 cubic ft.

my suggestion would be to exchange the box for the proper one.

could you not take the box back and exchange them out

i ask my friend for his bandpass box, it's still small for my requirements, but the bass has come alive with the port.

Guess i'm going to get a ported box and someway use the sealed box in my sister's car.

what do you guys think about bandpass boxes? to they have to be bigger then both sealed or ported boxes, since they are like 2 in 1.

hey -- just to let you know bandpass boxes are both sealed and ported. They can provide for some high bass output if you get the right size. I am not sure what size box you'd need though.. you can check your specs or maybe someone from earlier would know.

Yea "the best of both worlds" the thing is all bandpass boxes i have seen are to small IMO or cheap no brand stuff, if i need a 1.25" Sealed Box, and a 2" Ported box for my sub, how big should a bandpass box be?

And my friend i wish i had the trunk space in the Eclipse, :rolleyes now its a no no for me, i have a 240sx S14 and have around 3 or 3 1/2 cubic inches of trunk TOTAL, so it sucks.

you have 3 cubic inches of trunk space, wow! (j/k :P )


anyways, heres my take on it. ive never heard a good sounding (mass produced) bandpass box. ever. the problems are such:

1) to make a good sounding bandpass, it is almost always huge. no consumer is going to buy a monsterously cumbersome box. on top of that, the price would be phenominal when compared to a sealed or vented box, so thats just another reason consumers wouldnt buy one.

2) the "one box fits all" bandpass box is, in a word, blasphemy. they arent like sealed boxes where you can be off on the airspace by a little and still have it sound good, they require strict and exacting measurments.

with that being said, i would recommend a vented box. aside from an aperiodic bi-chamber (which is actually a form of a vented box) there just isnt anything that sounds as great and gets as loud as a nice vented box. just make sure you get (or build) the right one to the manufactureres specs. if you must err, always go bigger. this will only effectivly drop the porting frequency. do NOT get a box that has a really short port. a 1.5 cubic foot box with a 3" port is going to sound like crap because it is peaking at 55-60 hz or so and unloading everywhere below about 40 (where the deep bass is ;) ).

you should have seen the bandpass box I had my 3 JL 10's in. It took up the entire trunk. I have a ported box for two 12w6v2's now and it takes up a hell of a lot of room too.

We just don't have the space! :nono

^^^ i actually did some calculations and it would be feasable to get around 25 cubic feet of airspace for an enclosure, but of course you are taking up everything from the frontseats back. }( makes my 8 cubic footer seem small.

haha^^ Yeah man tell me about it. We are making a ported box in my friends car with an Eclipse sub. We pluged everything in this program and told us we need 4 Cubic feet. So, we were just thinking of taking out the back seats, woohoo... lol.

^^^heres a hint: the biggest rectangular box that will fit into the hatch without having to use fiberglass/modify panels/etc. and still leaving enough room on top for the subs excursion is exactly 4 cubic feet (assuming you use 3/4" MDF). my last box was like that. i wish i still had the dimentions. youll have to measure for width and length, but as for depth i placed the fact of the box 2" below the top of the trunk panels.

BTW...that sub is going to sound REALLY good in that application. :thumbsup
