since i have shaved my rear key hole is a pita to open the hatch because i have to go inside and now pop it (ya, i know, a lot of work :rolleyes ). so i have a remote popper on my hood and would like one my hatch. After looking back in the hatch, there isn't much room to instal a popper. I was wondering what size solenoid (sp?) have you used? where was it mounted, if you have any pics that would be gerat.

ive wondered the same thing, and ive thought it might be easier to attach it somewhere else "up" the cable in the cabin of the car. hell, you could probably detach the cable from the original latch and hook it up directly to the solinoid so that when you press the button to activate it it just pulls the cable. you could use a power door lock actuator or somthing similar for this and power it off of the extra output on an alarm. it would be quite cheap and easy.

i dont, however, have much experience in this field, ive just thought about it a little. i dont even know if this is exactly what you wanted to do or not, but i figured id share. :P

well i don't want to get rid of the pull latch inside the car. then i would be screwed if the popper goes out. i would hook it right next ot the lock and it would use a small cable to pull on it. I just want to know what size of popper is needed for the hatch.

you're just talkin 'bout a power trunk release, right? that thing's like $10-20 or so. just a solenoid and wires an stuff. i forget how much mine puts out. just buy one that's made for trunks. it's kinda a pain to figure out how to mount it and which part of the actual latch you wanna attach it to. note: you will have to attach it to the latch itself, not the cable for the manual release. it takes an extremetly large amount of force to pull cable (b/c technically the solenoid has to push up the lever as well). it's not hard to install the trunk kit. you have an alarm or something you're gonna hook it up to, right? then all you need is a relay. if you wanted to, you could get rid of the lever in the car and put in a button instead. then you could pop it by remote and when you're in the car just push the button instead. downside would be if you ever blow the fuse or anything you'd have no way of opening the trunk since your system would be entirely electrical... :P

I have a trunk poper installed on mine since my camera is in the way. I can take a pic if I can remeber for you how I put it in

I installed mine. The way I did mine I had to remove the latch from the car to gain access to the latching mechanism. These instructions are going to be a little vague but I'll do my best since it isn't infront of me right now. When you pull off the latch you'll find a small finger that the Key Lock would push when it was used. There will be a spring attached to that. Teh hole that the spring goes through is the same hole that I used for the pull wire.

I set the solinoid (Door lock actuator) to PULL when the alarm told it to. I only used on screw to hold the actuator in place since it'll allow it to pivot to keep angles at their minimum. There looked to be an existing plug that looked like it was for a factory hatch popper. I found that wire in the wire harness at the drivers kick then attached my alarm to that.

^^^ ya i did mine like that. don't try to attach it to the part attached to the cable for the manual release. also it's easiest to see which part to attach it to when the latch is in the closed position. rather than unbolt the loop from the hatch, just get a thick screwdriver or smilar rod and jam it in the latch as the loop from the hatch would be. there should be on part of the lever on the inside that is fairly easy to pull in the direction that stuart ^^^ had his solenoid mounted. be careful when you test pull the lever b/c your screwdriver or whatever you jam in there WILL go flying in the air. haha it's kinda cool but dangerous. it took me a damn long time to find the right place to mount the solenoid and the right part to attach it to, so i hope mine and stuart's advice saves you guys some time.

oh yea i got my kit from www.slickcar.com come w/ solenoid, wiring, fuse, fuse holder, and a button. i didn't use the button - just wired it to my remote.
