6 3/4 for the front

and

6 x 9 for the rear

I would recommend a set of 6.5" components for the front and a set of 6.5" coaxils for the rear. You can fit a 6x9 in there, but the sound quality will not be as good.

In addition to the speakers, install a sub or two and the system will have a good sound!

whats the difference between components and coaxils?

does that watt amount matter if im not hooking them up to an amp?

a co-axil speaker has the tweeter mounted on a pole through the center of the speaker. A component set, consists of a woofer, tweeter and a seperate crossover network.

The sound quality is much better on a component speaker. In addition, our vehicles are set up for a component set in the front and you will get better sound quality going that route!

where is it set up for a component set? on the dash towards the windshield?

which is more expensive component or coaxil im on a budget!

im thinking about putting pinoeer 6.5s in the front,
and alpine sps 6.5s in the back because those alpines are supposed to be more geered towards bass. i cant have a big sub because of problems with my ear, but i still want a little bass.

what audiophyl is refering to is putting a 6.5" midrange speaker in the door and a tweeter in the factory dash locations. as he mentioned earlier, a component set has the tweet and midrange speaker seperated, as where a coaxial has them combined. the disadvantage of the coaxial is that you loose surface area on the midrange speakers cone and the quality of the crossover that seperates the frequencies between the two speakers may be questionable. the advantages, however, show themselves in ease of installation, generally lower cost, relativly high sensativity (requiers less power to get loud), and a point source emination of sound (a concept i could go more into detail about if youd like).


although i agree wholehartedly with audiophyl, i belive that a coaxial might be better for your situation. dont get me wrong, a component set is not at all hard to install (just do a search for "installing tweets" in this forum) and could POSSIBLY sound better given the correct attention to power and tuning, but it might be like putting 650cc injectors in a n/a engine.

the best advice is to listen to as many sets of speakers as you can find and decide what YOU like, regardless of its design. we are all here to help you out installing stuff if you have any problems. :thumbsup



edit: might be a personal question, but what problem do you have with your ear? i cant imagine any disorder that would disallow semi-loud sound levels (besides the obvious damage that would occur to ANYONES ears). i guess if youve had previous damage your docter recommended that you try to retain your current level of fuctioning, and thats a good idea. im partially deaf in my right ear because of a sub-related incedent several years ago. accidentally blasting a 140+db setup at less than 2 inches into your ear is not a good thing.

i have fluid behind the ear drums, loud bass vibrates it and it tickles inside my head. neat right? :-p

its odd... the fluid drouns bass tones in my right ear, and amplifies high pitches in my left. its like im semi-deaf in my right ear and i have super hearing in my left ear lol


what can i do to get some decent bass tones in my car without putting big subs... would 6x9s in the rear make better bass than 6.5's?

and what about watts? how many watts should they be if theres no amp?

well that sucks! i feel for you man, i dont know what i would do if i had somthing like that happen to me.

many people may disagree with me on this, but a 6x9 will produce a more "meaty" sound (i.e., more bass). this is obviously a generalization, and it will vary depending on the product you are looking at, but ive always found 6x9s to be better in this department than 6.5"s. when you think about it, a 6x9 has more surface area that a 6.5", so it makes sence. again i reccomend you listen to whatever speakers you can in order to make an intelligent decision about what you want to hear.


as far as the question you posed about power.....any modern headunit should be able to adiquatly power a coaxial speaker. if you step up to a component set, though, you might find the amplitude to be slightly lower, and the speakers will REALLY benifit from a nice aftermarket amp, as they will get much louder in the long run.
