are capacitors basically all the same? is there a big difference between like the $50 lightning audio caps, and the 100+ fosgate caps??? (they're both 1 farad)

yes, all caps are almost exactly the same. some companies will try to feed you BS about resistance, etc...but the difference is so minimal that it makes no difference.

just wanted to add.....the power for the system has to come from somwhere, and an electromechanical device (such as a cap) is only a bandaid to cover up poor curent delivery from the rest of the charging system. it will not help your system out in any (audible) way at all, and might slightly reduce the dimming of headlights, but that is about it. IMO, save your money for a high-output alternator, wich is the only true solution to high amperage needs.

Most capacitors are made by the same company, then the company sells them to the brand names we know. A cap will help slightly, although it's main use is to stop or reduce the lights from dimming.

ALright, a capacitor is basically like a small battery. All it really does is store power. Because the amount of draw a system has is not a constant, a capacitor basically stores power for the large power draws (when the headlights dim), which puts less strain on your alternator. I do agree with ^^^^ that the best solution is a high output alternator, but if you are only running a mild system a cap will definately be adequate! Also, not all caps are the same. I would spend a little extra for a good one. I would recommend any brand made by esoteric audio (streetwires, gold quest, tiff).
