Well, i just got 3 JL 12W3's from pure rage, already in a box and everyting, now i need to get an apm. The local place here in town that has done some amazing systems suggested a JL 1000/1 for them, now that sounds good to me, but for consderably (*sp) less money my friend offered to sell me his cheater amp. It's made by rockford, but i am not exactly sure how a cheater amp would compare to the 1000/1 or even how it work exatly give me suggestion and enlighten me please.:+

I need more info on the rockford amp to give you a suggestion. "cheater" amps are simply amps that have a low wattage rating but are able to be bridged to like .5ohms. For example: an amp that is rated at 25watts X 2 @ 4ohms that can be bridged to .5ohms mono will actually put out about 800 watts. It is called a "cheater" amp because you are able to compete in the low wattage classes and still put out alot of power. IASCA goes by the rated power of the amp at 4ohms stereo. Post some more info and myself or some other GURU's on here will get back to you.:thumbsup

I havent talked to him in a while but, i bealieve it was a rockford power puch, that sounds right, like a 50x1 or 5x2, im not exactly sure. Right now he has it driving 2 JL 12W3's and it hits hard, but ppl told him if he hooked up one more sub, like the setup i have that that it would slam. I'll try and find out more specifics if needed. But the above infor should be ver close to correct.

I might be wrong, but I believe Rockford's amps are only stable to either 4ohms mono, possibly 2ohms mono, So I don't think that it is a true "cheater" amp. Get the model number of the amp and also which 12W3's do you have? Dual 2ohm, 4ohm or 8ohm voice coils? All this info will help. Thanks!

If you can afford the 1000/1, and not feel too bad about it, thats the amp to buy. You cant get much better... well, mabey Brax or McIntosh, but the JLs are right up there. For a budget amp that will pound on those subs... I say JBL 1200.1. One of the best deals for the money.. I think they can be had for like 250.00 or so.

I have been in love with that amp for years now.... IMO it is one of the baddest in the land. 4 guage power and ground directly into the amp? Hell yeah.

That amp doesn't seem like it would be that great. My Visonik puts out more and that's not great.

Now that's an amp, that scares me just thinking about how hard that would hit.

What are you talking about it says "Gold plated 1/0 gauge power inputs".

To answer the first question: It would cost alot but I would run 3 amps, one to each sub. Find amps that run the subs to peak RMS power. Then you will hit HARD. I always say that two little amps are better than one big amp. Does anyone disagree with that? Hope what I said helps.
