Is there an alternative the the pricey dynamat stuff? like at a bulk packing place or something? anyones info is greatly appreciated.

Yeah I just installed the FatMat throughout my car and it works pretty well....not to bad to install either.

Personally, I feel that the Tsunami product for sound deadening is the best on the market. Circuit City sells it and it's reasonably priced. I've used Dynamat, Rockford Fosgate's product, and the Tsunami in my car and here's what I thought.
The Rockford was crap...did very little for the car. I liked the Dynamat Extreme, but the Tsunami was the best product that I've used. In total, I have 68 square feet of the products.
Why 68 square feet...I didn't have time to remove the headliner and carpet by the firewall, otherwise there would be much more.

^^^ Dude, holy shit...take out your headliner! You won't believe the difference. There is nothing in your car that you can sound deaden that will make you say "wow!" as much as that fuckin headliner. That thing is horrible for sound! Trust me man, you'll love it.
As for material. I also used expanding foam and poly fill in the double walls behind interior panels. I'm not sure how to explain it but you have the outside sheet metal on the car for looks and there's another wall that's the rigid part of the car. If you seal off the inside wall with tape you can fill the cavity with expanding foam and it really helps a lot. Not too heavy either.
Then in the same area I also used poly fill to tuck up into areas that I couldn't pour foam into.
My car is rather quiet, but not quiet enough. I need more!

I would strongly recommend against using spray foam. Spray foam will keep expanding over time and may bulge your body panels.
I learned this mistake a long time ago and will never use the products.
