I go out to my car, and it's unusually cold this morning in Texas (32 degrees...big deal, hehe) and my amplifier isnt turning on when I start the car. I got this horrible feedback with the gas pedal happening, and my 12s arent on. As a test to see if I'm drawing power to the amp, I switched my lil AC power outlet on since it's wired off the amp's wires and it would come on. So the wires are getting power and ground to the amp. I don't know what's wrong, it was too early this morning to look at it, being on my way to work.

But the feedback is horrible now. See, it used to do that when I had to turn the volume up reallllly loud to watch a dvd in the car, but when watching tv or listening to the radio it was crystal clear. Everytime you hit the gas, the higher the rpms, the higher pitched the feedback would sound. It's weird. But ya anyone with ideas please help thanks.

Well, your amp could be dead. Or your ground might have come loose. What you need to do is look at the amp and see if there are any power lights on. It could be that you blew a fuse maybe. The alternator noise is hard to explain. I would start with looking at the amp. Check all the connections. If all else fails rip the amp out and take it back to the store where you got it and they can test it for you.

Whenever I had problems like this (back when I was into stereos) it was 90% of the time a grounding problem. Especially with the sudden feedback problems you describe.

so the amp wouldnt come on because of a loose ground, imo?

trace your ground back mike, 2 members that i have met have the exact same sound, only when accelerating. its basically engine noise that is disrupting the signal or somethin like that. just check it, and im about 99.99% sure that the ground is the source of your problem.

couple questions, then i should be able to help:

1) how is your sub amp wired (most importantly, where is it grounded...through a factory ground point or one you created yourself? did you check for continuity of this point before attaching it?)?

2) how are your "highs" speakers being powered, off the headunit (factory or stock?) or off of another amp? where is it grounded?

3) does the "feedback", or "whine" eminate from the subs or from the other speakers?

one thing i can recomend for now: try to run the sub amp off of another set of outpus from the headunit (if you have another amp for highs that is still functional, this is easy, just unplug the RCAs from the other amp and plug them into the input of the sub amp, in place of the ones you have in there now). make sure to turn the gains down really low and keep the headunit all the way down. see if the amp turns on. if it does, immediatly shut the system off again. in the case that the power LED does illuminate with this method, youve grounded your sub amp to a poor location, causing your amp to ground itself through the shield of the RCA cables and back into the headunit, through it, and out the headunit ground cable. this is not a good thing, and over time can cause failure of the headunit outputs. the reason you dont want to conduct this test for too long is becasue you dont want to burn out any more sets of outputs.
