4864, New HU & AMP or New Speakers?
Posted by MCubed45, Dec-15-02 06:42 AM
hey guys, i've got all stock audio stuff right now (not the infinity system) and will prolly upgrade within the next couple months. just wonderin if it's better to get new speakers first or a new headunit and amp first (the headunit i'm looking at requires an external amp). i'm looking at all alpine stuff if that makes any difference. type R speakers and components up front. CDA-7995 and their 5 channel v12 amp. just wanted to know if it'd be better to get new speakers and be running them off the stock HU for awhile or just get the new HU and amp first and be running it through the stock spears. TIA!

HU and amp first. one of the main reasons the stock system sucks is because it doesnt have enought power to properly drive the speakers without clipping. you will notice a huge improvment by swapping out the HU and adding an amp. plus....if in the process of tuning and testing the new install you blow a speaker, you have no worries.

Yes, Head unit first...the stock speakers will sound a lot better with a better head unit.

cool thanks guys! i was kinda leaning more towards doin the speakers first just from a cost perspective - only a couple hundred as opposed to maybe 800ish for the HU and amp (and wiring an everything). but i think i'll take your suggestions and save up for the HU and amp first. hmm 2003 models should be comin out soon... }>

you dont have to get an amp at the same time as the head unit either...you can get a good head unit for 300 bucks and a decent amp for 300...

nah dude i'm lookin at the cda-7995 from alpine (i think that was the model number). no internal amp. makes for better sound quality though. so yea. looks like i'll be savin for the HU and amp first. thanks though!

I definitley agree! I prefer the higher end stuff too! Why not save up and go for the gold! Only about $2500! If I hit the lottery this is what I am getting!
