This is how it goes. My alarm just stopped working. =) There is no response when I press the key (obviously). I checked if the valet was on, but it wasn't. For those familiar with the XL500, if the valet is on, the LED would be on constant. However, when I switch it to valet, the light doesn't turn constant anymore. Maybe there was no power source goin' to the alarm, so I checked the fuse, and it was fine. Also, the magnetic resonance detector still has the led blinking. Any solutions?

Well i know this has worked for me in the past, how, i dont know, but it worked. At the brain itself, unplug the main power wire harness, then plug it back in. See what happens. It is possible that the brain took a dump, but try that first. Check the ground connection also, to be sure its not loose or came off.

Damn it. I hate this alarm. I didn't try disconnecting it because I have been so busy. But last night, I turned off my car, and the alarm armed itself. It hasn't been working in probably over two weeks, and last night it decided to work. Now that it works, I don't know if the ignition kill is armed. These are the symptoms: I try to start the car, and it will crank about 3 times, but won't start. Once I let off the ignition, the alarm goes off. I feel that the ignition kill isn't activated because it will crank. But anyways, the alarm also doesn't deactivate anymore when I press the disarm button. So yeah, this is a piece of crap. Any suggestions? I was planning to just disconnect the whole unit, but I forgot that the brain completes the series circuit, so that means nothing connected to it would work.

It just sounds like faulty connections.

First off check the ground connection on the alarm. Make sure that it has a good connection with the end terminal, and make sure the end terminal is press snug against a part of the frame with the paint sanded off. Some peices of metal which float off the actual frame of the car are connected using very small screws or bolts, making a very bad place to be grouded to. If this is the case move it to a good ground source.

Next Check the 12v+ power cable(s) for your alarm using a digital multimeter using the ground for you alarm as the ground for your multimeter if possible to test that connect at the same time.

If all the power connections are good, then it's probably your starter kill connections.

One more connection to check would be the antenna wire.


If you alarm got toast from a short then it would, almost always, not function ever.

could it be a bad battery? if the voltage drops too low, (some) alarms start doing very wierd things for no apperant reason.
