4770, More wiring issues...

Got another one for yas. On my Alpine cda-7894 there is a dimmer feature. When you turn the lights on the radio is suppose to dim. Well on the radio there are two illumination wires, one that just says "ILLUMINATION" and the other says "DIMMER GROUND". Well on my wiring harness there is just one wire, and it says "DIMMER" on it. When I turn on my headlights the deck does not dim, and I want it to. I am assuming I need to hook up that "DIMMER GROUND" wire, but where do I connect it to?? (I looked at the wiring schmatic for the deck, it doesn't even show the "DIMMER GROUND" wire)

didja try grounding it? i'm not sure why it'd have a separate ground for the dimmer though... hmmm

No I haven't yet, Its all put together and I didn't feel like tearing it apart again tonight. Maybe tomorrow if I feel motivated enough to, but your right it just doesn't make sense.

I've never seen this type of wire before (dimmer ground), but i'm going to assume its for making the backlights of the deck work with your dimmer switch. Normally, when you hook up a dimmer wire to an aftermarket deck, the deck just goes a bit darker for night driving so its not blinding you. Your deck may have a feature so as it dims/ brightens with your stock switch, so you can control the actual brightness, instead of a preset dim level. To me, it makes sense to either ground that wire, or run that wire to the dimmer's ground. Not sure what color that is on the stock dimmer switch though..may have to test it. Hopefully this sheds some light. I would try calling up Alpine directly to talk to their tech department, or try e-mailing them, as they should have a definite answer.
