I just bought a stock 97 Talon and it gets extremely poor FM reception. The previous owner warned me of this and suspected it may need a new antenna, but I'm not sure if he knew what he was talking about. Could this be the problem? Has anyone else had this problem?

I always had really bad reception with my stock head unit. Then I got an aftermarket one and it's fine.

I've been having that same problem, just got some subs, so new headunit is next on the list of interior mods

i had same problem, i replaced my antenna since it wouldnt go up or down and then got a new headunit and my stations came in clear

have you checked the antenna cable? it runs in several places were it could get crimped. check to make sure its even plugged in behind the HU. you could possibly even buy an aftermarket antenna and run a straight connection between it and the radio to make sure its not and internal fualt in the HU.

Both 1G's and 2G's have this problem. If you are running the stock HU, and you have the 'diversity' antenna (essentially one power "whip" antenna and one mounted in the back window glass), you will have 2 antenna cables to connect to the HU, one large black one and a smaller beige-ish colored cable. The other two cables are the DIN cable and the main power/speaker connector. Check for crimps in all the cables, but most likely it's a problem with your HU - they just seem to have poor FM reception, no matter how many antennas are connected to em ;)
