4514, Any info on Profile Clarus Amps?
Posted by Squid, Nov-15-02 01:00 AM
I don’t know much about audio, but I want to buy myself a little gift since I’ve had a miserable past two months (currently homeless, crashing on a friend’s couch, and everything I own is in a rented storage room).

I want to get something decent but I don’t want to break the bank. I saw these Profile Clarus amps and the stats look good and the actual amp looks gorgeous. I’m thinking of getting a 4 channel amp to power 4 sets of speakers and a two channel to power a pair of tens.

damn dude, sorry to hear about that.

personnaly ive always had good luck with the profile amps. i have several friends with them and theyve lasted for years under not-so-good conditions (racing, poor installs, etc..). they arent brax or genesis, but they put out clean power, and thats all you can ask for in an amp.

Greetings!

Profile is considered to be an entry level product. As long as you are not playing a high level of volume, you should be just fine.

When looking into speakers for the amps, be sure to get ones with a great deal of sensitivity. The amps are a little under-rated and the higher sensitivity will make your system produce better.

Good luck to you!!!

I should have a new apartment in two weeks, but it's just been a bitch.

I understand that the Profile is an entry level amp, but what are the deficiencies of it compared to something like Alpine?

I really wouldn’t be surprised if the Profile is overrated but other than that why go with something more expensive?

As an example let’s compare the Profile Clarus CL600M to the Alpine MRD-300.

Thanks for the help guys.

the profile may not be as acurate with the specs of the crossover/bass boost/etc.. (like the crossover might say "60hz" and is actually at 70hz). it might start clipping slightly if the gain is turned up all the way. it might be slightly underrated (not by much though). to me, none of that really matters too much, as i think everyone tunes the crossover by ear, and ive never turned an amp gain up all the way anyways.
