4489, stock radio cuts in and out
Posted by vegasdsmr, Nov-13-02 02:11 AM
ya, so i blew my amp fuse last night, and now when im drivin around, my deck intermittently goes from on to off for a cuple seconds... i hear sort of a twitching sound when it happens. i duno if the sound is cummin from the speakers or what, but just drivin around and my stereo turns off, and then cums back on in a cuple seconds..

wtf... should i throw in a bigger fuse for my stock radio... i haven't messed w/the stock radio for about 2 yrs now. but i didn just add a second amp, and bigger subs to the mix...

any help/suggestions are appreciated
tia

you said you just added an amp, correct? and did your amp fuse blow or your headunits (you mentioned that the amp fuse blew, but later asked if you should put a larger fuse in for the headunit)?

the simplest thing would be to check for a loose wire to the headunit. does the clock still have the correct time after it shuts off and then comes on? if so, check the solid blue wire in the harness behind the HU, or possibly run a test line straight from the battery (or another switched or constant 12v+ source, like the cig lighter) and see if that changes anything (make sure to remember to turn the radio off when you park if you ran a constant 12v line, as it wont turn off with the key!). this would explain why the HU fuse blew, the wire might have come loose and grounded out.

another question: how is the signal delivered from the factory HU to the aftermarket amp? do you have a line level converter? make sure the amp is grounded correctly, etc.
