Hey guys, I have the alpine 7893 headunit in my car right now. I am sellin the car thou but want to take my goods with me and put the old headunit back in, i dont think its the stock headunit but its the one that came with it when i bought the car off of someone else. It is a JVC cassete deck. OK now my question is, I can get the deck out and shit, but the wire with all of the color cords that plugs into the cassete deck has all the wires cut off, and i dont kno what the hell im doin or how to install the cassette deck back in. I mostly need help gettin the wire hooked up with all the colored wires. Would you be able to help me out, im not good with stereo shit. thanks

you can break it down into two catigories, the wires on the headunit and the factory wires in the car. the color codes are as follows:

for the JVC: all speaker wires are in pairs with one color representing each speaker. in the colered pair, on will be solid and represents the positive wire, and the other will have a stripe (usually black) that represents the negative wire. the front right speaker is grey, the front left speaker is white, the rear right speaker is purple, and the rear left speaker is green.

for the power, the yellow wire is constant 12v+, the red is switched with the ignition 12v+, the black is grounded (on a side note, you will need to ground this yourself to the metel in the dash frame as there is no factory ground wire), and if you have a power antenna or amps, the blue wire is for that.

for the factory wires:

speakers
right front: + is white w/ red stripe, - is blue w/ black stripe
left front: + is white w/ blue stripe, - is black w/ blue stripe
right rear: + is yellow w/ red stripe, - is grey w/ red stripe
left rear: + is yellow w/ blue stripe, - is grey w/ blue stripe

power
12v+ constant (matches to yellow wire on JVC): red w/ black stripe
12v+ ignition: blue (located right next to the 12v+ constant on the harness)


now its time to just match everythng up and crimp away. of course, you could just go to best buy/circuit city/etc. and get a harness to crimp onto the headunit and then plug into the factory harness (assuming its not cut off). if you dont go the harness route, make sure to test it before you install it back into the dash.;)

ok, I get what your sayin but If i did get a harness, what does this doo, i dont get the harness part, And I am goin from the alpine 7893 to a JVC cassete deck that is not the stock one for the car. thanks

in the dash, theres a plastic plug (harness) that normally plugs right into the factory radio. when you buy an aftermarket unit, you obviously cant plug the factory harness into it, so you have to buy a harness adapter. it attaches to all the loose wires on the aftermarket unit so you can just attach it to the factory harness without cutting anything. some people dont buy them hovever, they just use the wire guide i posted above and snip off the factory harness and mate the aftermarket headunits wires to the stock wires via butt connectors, solder, etc.

so, if behind the headunit youve got the radio wires terminating in a plastic plug (i think theres actually two seperate ones), then go to best buy, etc and buy a harness adapter kit that you attach to the JVC. if instead, youve just got a tangle of wires with the factory plug cut off, youll need to mate the JVCs wires in with the factory wires by hand, using the wire color codes to crimp together the appropriate wires. HOWEVER....if you want to spend a little extra cash, you can buy harnesses that will effectivly replace the stock plug if it has in fact been chopped off. BB, etc. should carry those as well. in that instance you will cripm the plug replacment onto the factory wiring, effectivly bringing it back to "stock", then crimp the harness adapter onto the JVCs wires, the conncect the two plugs.
