okay, welp i know everyone of my friends with cobras have the same problem as I do, the volume adjust thingy wears out and it makes staticy noises and does not make the speech like its supposed to, just static.

wire - see below note
2 resistors - see below note
jewlers phillips head screwdriver
solder pencil
about 1" worth of thin guage solder
small dykes ( diagonal side cutters)

well, i hacked my radar this afternoon. heres what you need to do to fix it, get a small piece of wire about an inch long and about 24-30 gauge, doesnt have to be big. strip about a fingernails thickness off each end.
Next you will also need 2 resistors, the common 1/4 watt variety from radshack or your toolbox. as far as values if you use something with a couple kohms, that should suffice, i used 2 -> 3300 ohm resistors. the way you put them in determines the volume, when equal, the volume is at 50%, which is enough for me, put a combo of say 10k and 1k, you will have about 7/8 volume. reverse the 10k and 1 k and you will have about 1/8 volume.

heres the procedure.

1. take apart your radar.

2. on the board, you will see the potentiometer for the volume and power on/off. take the screw out of the top and remove the dial.

3. take a small set of dykes and remove the pot, there is 5 leads on it, cut them each off, doesnt matter how much you leave behind, just get that pot outta there. be careful not to damage any other components.

4. now when looking at the board as such. there are 5 pins/terminals.

* --------> this is power 1
...* ---------> this is volume power
.....* -------------> this is volume in
...* ----------> this is volume ground
* ------> this is power 2

////Display end//////

5. take the small wire you previously made and solder between power 1 and power 2. this will make it always on, no more switch, so you will have to unplug it, or mine just turns off when the key isnt on.

6. twist one end of the 2 resistors together, the twist gets soldered to the volume in terminal.

7. take the other end of one resistor and solder it to the volume power terminal.

8. take the other end of the last resistor and solder it to the volume ground.

9. put it back together.

Total time: about 20 minutes
Total cost: free if you have a couple resistors, otherwise about 50cents.
Total relief : no more annoying pissing you off radar.

Good luck
