Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out how to install some tweets in the dash speaker mounts. Whats the best way to get access to them?

Also, for you guys with speakers in front kick panels....how much space do they take up? I'm thinking about installing some, but I don't want them to take up too much of my legroom. Any pics? Thanks for the help!

to get to the tweets, just insert a flathead screwdiver under the lip and pop them out of there. theres no screws, etc. holding them in. what most people tend to do is find a holesaw of the same diameter as the tweeter mounts and just gut the factory tweets and shove the aftermarkets in there. it looks good, thats what i did when i had my tweets mounted there.

as far as kicks go, ive done 3 different sets up front. the first was a 6.5" component set, the second was a 5.25" component set, and the third (and current one) is a 6.5", 5.25" and 1" three-way set. so yes..there is ample room to work with, youve just got to sacrafice some leg room. using shallow speakers (like the ones i use, DEI studio series) helps a LOT.

heres a pic. the 6.5" is almost parralel with the length of the car and is only used as midbass from 150 hz. down, so i dont have to worry about beaming effects due to the sharp off-axis angle. the 5.25" and tweet are faced almost directly forward, with a slight upward and inward angle. they are (without too much self promotion), the most awesome kicks ive ever heard. the soundstage is wide and very high, with spot on center imaging.

What i did for my dash speakers is i took out the speaker itself and ripped it apart. Took off the magnet and all the connections on it. The tweeters from my componenets had small mounting brackets that i screwed into the casing of the old speaker housing. I mounted the tweeters inside the cases and then put the stock covers back on, wired themin and popped themback in place.

If you want, you can buy the factory caps that go in place of those dash speakers. These caps come on the cars without the speakers. You can mount tweets in those and then snap them in place.

Thanks for the help guys! I got the factory speakers out, now what would be the best way to run the wires from the tweet to a crossover? Sorry for all the questions...
