4161, LAST QUESTION =) But Would You Get This Amp?
Posted by xEclipsE RaceRx, Oct-06-02 02:31 AM
What kind of amp would you get for 2 Alpine Type R 12s 4ohm? I want an Alpine Amp, the new V12s... Im guessing the MRD-M500 would be the best, but what do you think? The subs handle peak 1000watts each, and the amp is a mono class d amp with 900watts peak power.
Here some information on them...

I wont ask anymore questions now

get the biggest JBL power series class d amp (the bp1200)and get more than twice the power for about half the price. of course....i understand some people are brand loyal and will sacrifice performance for the sake of cosmetics of contiuity, so if your that way you will still be happy with the alpine im sure.

aight man, what you should be looking for is RMS figures or the "constant" power ratings for each, I'm not sure what type R's take RMS, but let's just say they handle 1000RMS each, then that alpine with 900 watts peak wouldnt cut it cuz it's prolly like 450-500ish RMS, you'd do better off getting a Rockford Fosgate punch bd1000 or something like that, even a punch 800a2 would work, those would push out just what you're looken for, Alpine has excellent speakers imo, but I've had bad experiences with their amps, other's havent, I personally like fosgate, JL audio, JBL, Digital Audio, Audiobahn, and MTX for amps, but you'll hear different stories from different people as to what brand you should get, just my .02

I have that amp pushing my 2 10s....I like it! Its enough power for me. You may want something with a bit more umph though if you want extreme sound. If you want to stay Alpine check into some of their 4 channel amps that you can bridge each side of.

By the way that amp IS rated at 500 RMS but the factory tests them on the way out and mine measured 582 RMS....I thought it was kinda cool!!

Just looked at the specs on the subs, they are DVC's with 2 4ohm voice coils so you can actually bridge each sub to 2 ohms which means you can either run a 2 channel and bridge each side to 2 ohms or if you get a good enough amp you can run it bridged down to 1 ohm and push both subs.

You can go with an Orion Xtreme 5002 and bridge each channel to 2 ohms and get 250 per side from it. It will be a true 250 and give you a ton of sound.
This place has one for 399, but I'm sure you can find a better price somewhere else, this is the first one that showed up on my search.

You guys are missing the point here.

The MRDM-500 was designed to run 1...THAT'S ONE...of the Type R 12's. The Alpine show vehicle has 1 amp per voice coil on them :thumbsup

Aaron has a good piont.....

To have enough power you would need to run 2 of the M500's. Also if you are getting the 4 OHM DVC version then you would have to run the speakers in series/parallel giving you an overall 4 OHM rating which would draw even less power out of the M500 since it's 500 RMS @ 2 OHMs. Running it parallel/parallel would give you a 1 ohm load which the Alpine is not 1 OHM stable as far as the manual is concerned.

After looking at the multi-channel amps from Alpine it doesn't look like they make a single amp solution to run both of your subs. You will either need to get 2 Alpines or a different brand.

I used to be a pretty big fan of SoundStream because some of thier amps are stable down to like .5 OHMs and I also was a big PPI fan. I couldn't suggest a model because I haven't shopped them lately.

Good Luck!!
