4042, Amp Rating of our Alternators
Posted by djtrickee, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Does anyone know the rated amount that our stock Alternators produce?
I have heard that the average amp is rated to 55-65 amps and that is generally good for up to around 35 Watts RMS. Does this sound like ours? Has anyone here replaced their alternator with a high-output alternator?
Thanks,
Chris b.

Why kind of audio system are you intending to run? Once we know your intentions, we should be able to let you know if your alternator is sufficient.

I believe our alternators are rated at 80amps, and the canadian ones are 90. They arent great, but for 90% of the systems out there they work fine. i had 1500 watts running off of mine for a couple years untill it recently went bad. if you want an upgraded one, go to www.4alterstart.com . they sell 135 amp units for $215 shipped, and it works VERY well.

Thanks for the info and the site. I was only curious as I have 2 amps pushing around 1000 total and LCD screens, DVD player, and PS2... just wanted to make sure I was within spec or if I should be worried about maxing out my alternator.

Our stock alt is rated for 90 amps. Its more than enough to run 1000 watts on. I have 3 amps and about 2000 watts, and even a UDP. All is great. Just remember, the more stress you put on the alt, the shorter its lifespan will be. A high amp alt is def a worhty investment if your funds permit (400-600 bucks).
