4020, Where can I get some custom boxes?
Posted by My9t5Talon, Sep-25-02 03:56 AM
the audio shops around here are pretty expensive...all I want seems simple to me, why does it cost sooo much?...

I want something so that so my 2 12's are facing like the middle of the back seat (from the back corners of the hatch) and angeled towards the back glass just a tad...

right now I have a big bandpass box that my friend bought at BestBuy, but it didn't fit in his trunk...he gave it to me, and it fits, but there is no more trunk...just trying to save some weight (and some trunk space!!!), thanx guys

P.S. I'm in the Sac./Bay Area, Cali. if you know of some good places around me, THANX

Well, custom stuff is expensive because it's custom ;)

You're wanting to face your subs the wrong way too. You want them to face the back. Your bass will be harder, louder, and you'll have less noticeable distortion. Just get a 2 twelve wedge style box that will fit between the struts in the rear if you don't want to pay for customization. Or look through the posts in here and get ideas and build it yourself. It's not hard at all.

Custom setups like that will always cost an arm and a leg sometimes even a left nut depending on how crazy you wanna get. If you have the will to do it yourself. Go for it, there are numerous books, tutorials, etc out there on box building. They can be found online and sometimes even at your local book store like barnes and noble etc. Sorry that I don't know of any places around your area. Im down in SoCal(san diego) If your ever down In this neck of the woods feel free to hit me up. I'd be willing to help ya out.

Building a custom box is the best way to go in regards to sound quality. Personally, I feel that facing the box up towards the glass will give you the loudest bass and putting the subs in a sealed box will give you tighter bass.

In a hatchback, it's not crucial to face the subs towards the back of the vehicle. That is the norm for placing subs into a trunk of a non-hatchback.

I run three 10's in the trunk area of my talon, but I did some custom fiberglass work and removed the entire spare tire rack. In doing so, it allowed me to hit some pretty high numbers and also get pretty good sound quality.

I'm in Illinois, so I would have hooked you up with a box. I work at Circuit City and do some custom work. I may be selling my box in a month or so. Maybe I'll look you up.

Good luck to you!

Thanks for the positive comments about my ride! Pics of my car have been in "AutoSound & Security" and also "Performance, Auto and Sound". I was talking with Rodney Wills of "Car Audio & Electronics" and there may be a few pics of my car in next month's issue.

Luckily, I've built a good install, but I need more as far as show and performance. I also compete in SLAP (Sound, Looks, & Performance) competitions and I need to better my car for next year. I did win nationals a few weeks ago, but I know that the ante will be upped for next year. Any comments about style and performance will be greatly appreciated.

I live in Coal City, IL and work at the Circuit City in Naperville. Any comments are greatly appreciated.
