ok, i finally ditched the stock head unit for a kenwood. Sounds SOOO much cleaner. however, kenwood doenst seem to think the front speakers should be too loud, and they dont contribue much at all. cant even hear them over the rears. so im thinking of amping them with all trebble.

what would you do?? amp, crossover, id like to know what youve all done.

If you don't have the dashspeakers, I'd put those in. I had just the 4 speakers and a sub and when I decided to take some old computer speakers and put them in, it made it sound soo much better. It give it much better postioning. The wires are already there even if the speakers aren't so it's really easy to put in.

Move the fader up to the front speakers a bit. That should help. That's what I did with my Kenwood

definatly get tweeters for the dash. i was amazed at what a $10 set of new tweeters (ebay) could do.

i got tweeters in the dash, and the fader doesnt help. ill have to take another look at my wiring. the front speakers sounded better with the infinity system than they do with the kenwood. but the rears so alot better with the kenwood.

the fronts sound like all mid range, no highs at all comin out of em.

I think my question would be do you have factory speakers still? If so, what kind of Kenwood did you get? There's a great possibility that your head unit is seeing a strang ohm load because of the 4 speaker split up front but only 2 in the rear. Your infinity set-up was designed for this, your Kenwood is not.

Now that makes sence!!! i have factory speakers all the way around, plus a sub in the back. so your thinking maybe only run 2 speakers in front?? like maybe just the dash speakers? Anyone know if there is an OHM difference with any of the factory speakers?

Should be able to handle it, but if I remember correctly the back speakers are a 4ohms but the fronts are 4 on the side and like 6 or 8 on the dash. It's rather odd. I put in a set of components with the tweeter flush mounted between my door handle bezel (whatever you call it) and my vent. Then I completely cut out the dash speakers cause I couldn't even hear them playing. Once I get my amps in I'm going to be running a 2 channel to my door components (Alpine TypeR) and running my rear Type R coaxials off the head-unit so that they are more rear-fill...then I'm going to use the head unit fronts to run a set of tweeters in the dash (Not sure what type yet) just for some extra snap.

I noticed that my factory stuff was totally midrange too. I don't care what they say, 2.5" tweeters suck ass for highs and sound more like mids anyhow. I've used 2.5" mid/highs before...but there's always a tweeter one step above it. Chuck 'em :) Get some components and get rid of all that factory crap....you'll be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy!

cool thanks bro, thats good advice. i plan on upgrading eventually anyway, just wanted to make sure it wasnt my head unit. the stock 6x9s actually sound pretty good. but ill probably dump those eventually too. i couldnt beleive the difference an after market head unit actually made, so im sure speakers add alot too! why is it i can buy a kenwood for $300 bucks that sounds so much better than stock, but dealers cant do that.

Cause the car manufacturers are in the business of selling you a car with minimal qualities for a specific price. If we can make these 420a engines runn 200+ N/A why didn't they come that way from the factory? Same with your radio. They aren't interested in making it the best radio in the world....just so it's in there is all they care about.

In more specific terms your Kenwood has a greater signal to noise ratio and a higher RMS output. Better Signal + More power to get it there = better sound...But you knew that right ;)
