My biggest goal here was to still have easy access to the spare just in case.... Well, my second priority anyway...I obviously wanted it to look really good... I still need to paint the wood underneath black so you can't see it through the small spaces where the top plate doeasn't quite cover. Not really sure if I like the grills on there or not. Suggestions?

VERY NICE!! I like them without the grills a little better. It would be a good idea to keep the grills though if you put stuff in the trunk...they will protect the sub from damage when its being used.

FQN BAD! Do you have templates or dimensions you used to make it? I was wanting to do something very similar to my car...

I just took a bunch of pieces of cardboard and cut them to fit each section and taped them together with duct tape. Then traced that onto a piece of 1/8" hardboard, trimed it to size and made the cutouts for the amps/cap then traced that onto 1/4" plywood, cut it and carpeted it and all done...The bottom board was made by tracing the stock board that covered the tire.

I couldn't do the entire floor out of one piece that low because I would have never been able to get the piece in. I had to make a small seperate section to cover the cubby on the right and the rest is one piece.

Now that I think about it I probably could have used the stock carpet for a template....

Thanks for the feedback guys I think I will keep the grills but probably have them chromed. Right now they are just chrome painted.

Sounds amazing....Mids and highs are crystal clear and the bass hits hard. Have a few rattles to track down but that is to be expected...

No problem, they're well deserved! Very innovative, low dollar way to do this... a lot easier than 'glass or vinyl trim, yet still very, very clean.

Wow I really like that it's simple and nice. My friend has a very similar setup with 2 amps and a cap except its under plexiglass. I wish I could make something like that.

Does anyone know if subs in our cars sound better facing up (which is what I have now with my false floor fiberglass enclosure) or facing back or forward? I'm considering just getting a regular box for 2 10's instead of what I have now...

I have read a few posts on the sub facing debate. I tested it when I had mine in a normal box and it sounded best when it was facing the back. It was just as loud facing up but I had more rattles that way. I think it was the hatch cover.

I wanted to go with plexiglass aswell but since this was kindof a budget project and plaxi can get expensive I just wnt with the plywood trim ring and left it at that. Anytime I use my trunk I just laydown a thick towel that I store under the trim ring.

Dude, you can face those with plexi extremely cheap. Go to Home Depot and back in the door/window section they have small plexi sheets in 1/4 thickness you can use for like $15 a piece. Just make sure you heat vent the area. I used to have an amp rack in my truck that had a plexi window in the shape of a Rockford Fosgate logo....it was nice but I had to put a fan in since the damn amp overheated being sealed in :)

I will have to check into that.....The one time I used plexiglass for a window into a sub box it was like $30 for a 1X2 sheet but it was 3/4 inch. I just assumed I would have to spend a bunch to do it. i would still have to lay a towel down to keep from scratching the stuff. And inorder to get that top piece out I need it to flex quite a bit so i am not sure plexi would work so well with my application. Thanks for the tip Aaron I will have to check that out next time I am at Home Depot.

Anyway, when you take them apart the black trim piece just screws in from the back. You take that off, paint it and screw it back in....really easy. Just search for all the posts on clearing out your headlights and there is nothing to it.

Nice Set-up. I was going to do something like that, but I really wanted to have my car set-up like the rx-7 that Vin Desel drives in the fast and the furious but I didn't have time cause of work. But I love my alpine subs, it turns head people ask me all the time what I have. My amp is hooked up to both of the 12s its a 775 watt amp the power is cut in half and half but I don't even have the gain on the amp turned up but about half way and it still shakes peoples cars. My neighbors complain everyday that they can hear me coming into the subdivision. What size are you Alpines and what are you pushing in watts ? just want to know cause if there the same as mine my friend said that they can handle like 1000 watts or near that.

I have 10s....Running them with the m500 mono Alpine amp. Its rated at 500 RMS @ 2ohms and actually came from the factory pushing 580 into 2 ohms RMS. They test it and write down what the output was.

Its pretty loud and I have the gain turned down aswell. I am totally happy with the subs.
