3597, I need opinions on American Legacy Amps ASAP! Posted by Mindz, Aug-13-02 12:36 PM
I need to know if the quality is good enough for me to buy a 2000 watt amp to power my subs? they're 1700 watts (MTX BLUE THUNDER EXTREME 12"). I can get the amp for 100 bucks. is it worth it?

so you're saying it would push 3-400 watts for 100 bucks, and your PG amp is only 500 for double the price? sorry, but I think I'll go with the AL amp.

What i mean is that it could maybe push 3-400 but it won't be clean reliable bass your amp will have alot of distubance and it will overheat easy an all and all I guess you get what you pay for if it's that cheap its for a reason......

Hey Mindz, I hate to burst your bubble here but I can slap 5000 watts on a tin can with some wires hanging out of it and sell it on the market. There's no law that conforms people to any standard rule. So in other words...you can pay ^^^^^ $200 for an extremely good amp (Phoenix gold is as high as you can get in quality) or you can pay your buddy $100 for a piece of crap that you'll hate and want to ditch in a week.
By the way....let's talk about ratings. There's no ratings standards in the US. So that's why American Legacy and all the other craps-in-a-box can say they push 2000 watts when you're really only getting 3-400. Where as your reliable companies like Phoenix Gold, Alpine, Rockford (Yeah, the ones you PAY MORE for) will under rate their amps. See, in IASCA tournaments for sound you have to enter catagories based on the amount of power you're pushing. So Phoenix will say "Rated at 250 X 2" and that sucker will probably push out 1000watts plus when you cut it's ohm load. Oh yeah, and speaking of resistance. Your AL amp will be struggling to handle a 2ohm load where that Phoenix will most likely handle a 1ohm....some Phoenix amps will handle a .25ohm load running some crazy amount like 4000watts.
Double your money and get like 10 times the quality. It's called smart shopping.
