3490, new amp- bad radio reception... Posted by EvMan2345, Aug-05-02 03:40 PM
i recently put in a memphis amp and as soon as i put the amp in my radio reception suffered tremendously. i mean i cant get a clear signal at all- too much fuzz. with my old amp i had normal reception- I tried mounting it on the back of the passenger backseat but that didnt help- any other ideas on what to do?

You probably disconnected your antenna during the install (it's happened to me). Did you check your connections?

That's a good possibility. I make that mistake a lot. Either that or you want to make sure your radio is grounded properly. Eclipse's don't have ground wires in their factory harnesses and the factory radio is grounded through the antenna. It's a long shot, but if your radio isn't grounded properly and it's still grounding through the antenna then maybe it's causing some kind of weird ground loop interferance. Hey....I've seen weirder :)

i've checked the ground and the antenna wire is in... is there any interference maybe from the power wire or the power within the amp that would be causing bad reception from the power antenna? i hope it kinda makes sense...

Ahhhh....you may have run your power wire over the top of your antenna. Since our antennas run to the back you have to be conscious of where you place your power cable. Opposite side of the car is ideal. You know how you place your power cable opposite of your RCA's to keep engine noise out of the system? Treat your antenna cable the same way.

It wouldn't be a Class D amp by chance? I have found out that some Class D amps will screw up radio reception when the antenna is near it. I had this problem in my Eclipse and solved it by installing a small glass mount one on the windsheild-cleared everthing up.

check the ground on the amp. poor grounding can lead to all kinds of strange stuff happening. extend the amp ground to a place you know is good, such as a seatbealt bolt, and see if tht solves the problem.
