ok.. im assuming that when you take a dvc sub that is 2ohm at each voice coil and run them parallel to amp that is bridged, this would create a 1ohm load.. right? and i have an amp.. kenwood 729s briged should push 300rms at... 4ohm.. anyone think there could be a problem with this.. :-)

i want a new amp.. but im tight on $$ as im sure everyone is these days.. the amp can do 100rms x 2 at 2ohm but im not sure if i should hook it up that way cause i dont want it to be stereo, but there is a mono setting on the amp, so i guess that could be ok.

should i be looking for a mono amp to do 1ohm or shoud i get a 2chan that can do 2ohm bridged.. i was thinking for brands id like to stick with alpin(yes i know they are pricey, but are good quality), or rockford, or i even saw this nice clarion one on crutchfield. i need at least 300rms. the sub is an alpine 12in dvc 2ohm on each voice coil..

Hook it up in stereo, as that is what the amp is rated for. So your sub will see 100 watts to each coil. And contrary to popular belief, bass signals in stereo are the SAME as in mono, so dont worry about running it in stero. Another option is to find a one ohm stable one channel amp to run your sub's coils in parallel. But these kind of amps are not really cheap though..Be sure to use a sub crossover on the amp to take out any high frequency audio signals from the sub. The majority of amps come with a crossover already built in nowadays..

You can use a 2 channel amp but make sure it can run 1 ohm or less when bridged. MOst higher end amps will run clean down to .5 or even .25 bridged, but you gotta get a GOOD amp to do it.

those new JBL amps are supposed to be able to go down to a 1 ohm load, and still pound out some serious power...they are pretty cheap too for how much power they put out.

all i know is that this sub is being very poorly powered, and bass is good :-) neways.. i cant afford either so for the time being ill probably just rewire it for a 2 chan setup.

ok.. i think ive got it figured out for now.. i rewired the sub to run at 4ohm and thus solving the whole ohm load and having the amp heat up too much issue. now to finally install my cap and make evertying pretty... :-)

Don't bother with the Sony. I cringe everytime someone asks me to install one. Nothing but problems. Keep your 4ohm DVC's wired the way you have them. That Kenwood will not handle a 1ohm load stereo and definately won't handle a .5 ohm mono load.

To get that kind of resistance handling you're going to have to get something like a Phoenix Gold or Soundstream. Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, Pioneer, all your mainstream "everyone has them" types won't do it reliably.

surprisingly the kenwood held out pretty good at 1ohm.. only started to have problems when volume was at like 20 for more than a few min with hard bass. but i was able to go for several hours at around 18-19 playing a bass cd... with sustained bass tunes that seemed to last almost 30sec or more. im sure it wasnt doing the amp much good, but its fixe now untill i feel i should upgrade again.. :-) thanks for the input and assistance.
