I was able to find a 5GB drive. That's enough for now.

That sounds cool, I'd love to see that write up. I've got a MP3 cd deck right now, it skips a bit more than I'd like it to and it doesn't like the cds my new burner makes. I think I'd need at least a 20gig drive though :). So how much would a setup like that run?

I had an old laptop and palm pilot laying around, so that didn't cost me anything. This is what I bought:
1. CD Changer cable $45 ($15 shipping x( I wanted it for the weekend though) 2. Power inverter 300 watts $40 3. Palm Pilot travel cable $15
It was worth it cuz I already had the big stuff just laying around not being used. If you had to do this project from scratch I would recommend you buy one of those new portable MP3 players that hold 20GB. I saw them at Best buy for about $250. Then all you need is a CD changer cable to wire it to the car.

Well I think I could get by without the cd changer cable since my head unit has an auxilry (sp?) input on the front. And after seeing some of the laptop post in the for sale area I think I could pick up a usable laptop for $150 or less and I'm pretty sure I've seen palms for $75 or less at bestbuy. Plus it would be nice to have a laptop for future datalogging or other car purposes. And I'm just not to fond of portable mp3 players in general.

Hey chris, you said you got nothing but machines to spare, would you be willing to sell any? What kind of setups do they have (as long as it can run winamp smooth, and the more storage the better)? And how much $ for them?
Oh yea, how hard is it to upgrade the hard drive on a laptop, any harder than a normal comp? And where can you get laptop hard drives?
Sorry for so many questions. Thanks.

remember someone posted a while back about that kid who put the mini computer in his trunk and then put some type of screen with buttons where the cd-player would be and hotkeyed commands so that the thing actually runs off win95 thru winamp on his mini computer. anyone know what i am talking about? the kid had a website too, anyone remeber it?
