what should i get? is dynamat really that much better that everything else? i'm thinking about getting a 36 square foot kit of dynamat xtreme on eBay for $100. is it worth it? i wanna do the whole car. probably need more that one package, but, we'll see. anybody have any experience(s) with this stuff?

ok first off.. are you wanting to get rid of rattles or just insulate the car from outside noise and keep inside noise in.. if just for rattles buy a door kit of dynomat extreme and use that on the various places that are making the noise. i have done this and practically ridden myself of most rattles inside the car and i still have almost have of the door kit left.. but if you just want to go the other way. i would definately recomend the dynomat. some people have used foam type stuff, but im sure it can get messy. either way if you have more questions ill be glad to answer them as best as i can.

dude, I just dynomatted my trunk with an extreme wedge pack (4 sq ft) and it was MORE than enough to cover it, made all the difference in the world, bass hits much harder...heh, like I need that eh Jason?

No, the best thing to filter outside noise is to get loaded vinyl or some other material like closed cell foam. These are called sound barriers, as opposed to sound dampners like dynamat. The material with the highest STC is what you want. Beware - When filtering outside noise though, you have to make sure and cover everything! Don't leave any holes! It's not like dynamat and other sound dampners where you only have to put some on a panel and not cover the entire panel.

I have done so much research on this - reviewing STCs and NRCs for a bunch of foams and barriers. Loaded vinyl that you can get from cascade audio ($15/ square foot) is equivalent to the stuff you can get from mcmaster ($1.4/ square foot) and has STC of 20 (for .5 lb/sq ft) to 26 (for 1 lb/sq ft). The closed cell foam I've found with the highest STC is volara. (STC of 24 for 1/8" thick).

This stuff will add weight so plan carefully - that's why I've researched so much stuff about it, because when I get my NER kit I wanna be fast!

I would post & ask (Dougie2) about the sound deadening stuff, he is an expert on that for a 2G.
